• The concept was discussed with Crane Handling Experts at CERN
1. Caterina Bertone - EN-HE-PO
2. Serge Pelletier - EN-HE-HH
3. Erik Richards - EN-HE-PO
• The elasticity of the overall System including Crane will come into
action, and will have to be adjusted.
• As per their opinion, the system could be adopted.
• For further actions we could officialize the discussions with them.

Some Points
• In a scenario where a temporary Spacer should be removed
from the lower positions on the Assembled CE – H due to any
reason - there could be 02 different schemes of removal;
1. We directly remove the required Spacer (without
removing all above Spacers)
2. We remove all above Spacers & Cassettes and then
remove the required Spacer.
Some Points
• In the former case, the force requirement to lift the
respective portion of the absorber will be quite high due to
loads coming from all above entities.
• In the later case, force requirements will obviously be very
low comparatively.
• These scenarios should be discussed in details before going
for an action with the particular insertion tool type (see next
slide)
Some Points
• While although the former case could give some advantage
of not removing & inserting the entities (Spacers/Cassettes)
above, but in absence of the respective bolts (at least in the
long bolts section), this could be dangerous, as a slight slip of
the spacer, could cause the spacer to fall off and hence crush
the respective cassettes due to significant loads coming from
above.
• Henceforth even if the later case where all the cassettes and
their spacers above could be removed one by one, will not
be dangerous at all.
