A. To identify a workstation at home and identify the ergonomic faults.
B. Use ergonomics to fix the workstation Theory Definition Of Ergonomics an applied science concerned with designing and arranging things people use so that the people and things interact most efficiently and safely. Musculoskeletal Disorders These are injuries and disorders that affect the human body’s movement or musculoskeletal system i.e. muscles, tendons, ligaments, nerves, discs, blood vessels, etc. Workstation Identification
• My workplace was my window slab and arm chair with my
laptop and charger • I use the place for my online classes, research work, assignment making and gaming. • The window gives a natural light and the door behind helps create a cross breeze which makes the place comfortable. Identification Of Problem 1. Angle of the back support is not 90°
◦ Because of the extra inclination the back of the person
sitting on it is not at a proper angle
◦ After siting for a while acute pain in neck and back
occurs. Identification Of Problem Example Identification Of Problem 1. Angle of the back support is not 90°
◦ Because of the extra inclination the back of the person
sitting on it is not at a proper angle
◦ After siting for a while acute pain in neck and back
occurs. Identification Of Problem
2. Uneven eye level with the screen
◦ Causes neck pain due to strain
Identification Of Problem Example Procedure 1. Escalate the laptop screen using a wooden studying table. 2. Replace the trackpad with an external mouse. 3. Replace the laptop keyboard by an external keyboard to use at a more comfortable angle. 4. To fix the angle of the chair use a pillow. 5. Place the laptop on the study table to align with the line of sight. Procedure Applying necessary corrections : 1. Replacing installed hardware with external hard drive Procedure Applying necessary corrections : 2. Fixing the chair Result Result Result
o The workplace is now more comfortable after small additions.
o Sitting time for studying and focusing is more because of lack of stress on back, eyes, neck and hands. Conclusion o Ergonomics is all about making the work environment as conducive as possible to avoid injuries, stress and other long term conditions that may have an effect on the well-being of an employee. o Without proper ergonomics, there is increased absenteeism and sick leaves which ends up reducing the productivity of the employees and eventually affecting the profitability of the company. o For instance, an employee who is constantly experiencing back pain because of the office chairs will miss work on some days to seek medical attention which means that sometimes targets will not be met. o Ergonomics mainly involves fitting the work environment to the employee. o It is usually done through efficient organizational systems or specialized tools.
