GREEN TECHNOLOGY
Green Technology or Greentech

Simply defined as

‘Environment friendly technology’.

Why Do We Need This ?
We are polluting our home planet in a very
dangerous manner.

We have altered the natural conditions of earth

 Changed its natural composition of air ,
 D egraded its soil ,
 Polluted the water ,
 Changed its climate,
Pollution in daily life
We can see that our present technology cause
pollution to earth and its resources in one
way or the other

But it is impossible for the modern man to live

without the present technology!!!
GOALS OF GREEN TECHNOLOGY
 Green technology addresses climate
change and environmental sustainability.

1) Use energy most efficiently.

2) Transform our transportation system.
3) Producing renewable energy.
4) Controlling the climate change
Our Future
Without Green Technology With Green Technology
Recent Inventions in Green
Technology
ONE CAT
 It is a car developed by MDI Company
 It runs on the technology called Compressed Air

Technology
 In this air is stored in carbon cylinders which is

used to move the vechicle.it can be used to

travel distances up to 200 miles, and its mileage
can be improved by heating so that the air
expands.
 It can be refuelled in 3 minutes
 It does not cause any pollution
 Less power
GREEN REACTOR
GREEN REACTOR
 It is actually NUCLEAR FUSION REACTOR
 In this two nucleus are bombarded against each other

to generate energy
 Normally this kind of reactions occur in stars at high

temperatures
 Scientists from Plasma institute under the Chinese

science academy succeeded in putting up a reactor

called SUPERCONDUCTIVITY TOCOMACH on test base
 It does not create any nuclear waste
BACTERIA
 Using Genetical Engineering scientists had
succeeded in enhancing the ability of bacteria to
generate energy from nature and to neutralise
toxic substances into simple harmless
compounds
ENERGY FROM BACTERIA
1. A group of scientists of MIT have evolved a
group of bacteria called GEOBACTOR using
genetical engineering to produce energy from
carbon compounds present in mud
2. Students from CAMBRIDGE SCHOOL OF
BIOTECHNOLOGY have found microbes that can
produce ethanol and biodiesel from carbon
dioxide by the process of photosynthesis when
they are placed in a BIOREACTOR
Bacterias For Neutralising Toxics
 Scientists have discovered certain bacteria that can
neutralise harmful chemicals
 If they are produced in a large scale using genetical

engineering they can help us to neutralise toxic

chemicals
 For eg;-

 Mico Bacterium, Alkaligenes can neutralise -Benzene

 Certain bacteria can neutralise Polychlorinate -
biphenyl, Naphthalene
 Shewanella can decompose heavy metals like

Cadmium, Tin etc

CLEANING OIL SPILLS

• Superbug is a bacteria which

is developed by an American
scientist named Dr Anand Mohan
Chakravarthy and can consume oil
The
can be used to clean up oil spills in
oceans
HAPPY NEWS FOR KERALA
 Scientists from Madras IIT had found a group
of bacteria that can neutralise ENDOSULPHAN
 A mixture of a bacteria from staphylococcus

family and bacillus circulans can convert

endosulphan into environment friendly
compounds
GREEN PLASTIC
 Plastics can be made from plants
 A company known as Metabolics in America had

found a certain bacteria that contain certain genes

to produce plastic and these were injected to
Escherichia Coli which acts on organic
waste,oils,starch, cellulose to produce green
plastic
 When these bacteria are placed on plants like

switch grass they make plastic of this

These plastic’s name are:-

 Polyhydroxy Alkanoate
 Cellulose Acetate
 Polylactide
 Thermoplastic Starch
GREEN BOX
 Green box is a device used in cars to control green
house gases
 it is placed beneath the silencer and is connected to
exhaust cylinder
 It collects gases like carbon dioxide, sulphur dioxide,
nitrogen oxide which causes green house effect
 When a genetically modified algae is placed in it bio
fuel is produced from it
 Developed by Deric Palmer,Jean Houston,John Johns
NANO TECHNOLOGY
Robots For Repairing Ozone
Layer
 Scientists have started to build robots that
can repair ozone layer by protecting it from
further depletion and doing maintenance to
ozone hole
NANO WATER PURIFIERS

Researchers of BARC have created a

water purification method using carbon
nano tubes which are having the size
of 1 billionth the size of human hair. it
is so small that no virus or bacteria
can pass through it, only the
molecules of water can pass through
it making it extremely safe for
drinking
ENERGY BY WALKING
•In this a device called Nano Generator is used
•When we are walking our muscles
produce mechanical vibrations and
the nano generator converts it into
electrical energy
•Scientists have invented nano
generators made up of
zinc oxide/barium titanate
nanowires
BIODIESEL
 Biodiesel can be made from a variety of
products, including animal fats and virgin and
recycled vegetable oils derived from crops
such as soybeans, canola, corn and
sunflowers
 It is used in its pure form or is mixed with

diesel to produce cleaner fuel

 It can be used in ordinary diesel engines
 It works more efficiently than diesel it reduces
wear and tear of engines ensuring its longer life
and less maintenance
 The carbon dioxide produced during combustion is

balanced by the carbon dioxide absorbed by the

plants that are used to produce it
WAVE ENERGY
 Wave energy uses kinetic energy of the waves to
produce electricity
 It is a renewable source of energy
 Unlike dams it do not need big structures and it

does not restrict the natural flow of water

 It can be placed in areas where the waves are

powerful
 Initial cost high is high
 buoys look like long cylinders floating upright
in the water, with only the top few feet
visible. As they rise and fall on the ocean
surface, the motion drives a pump within the
cylinder that compresses seawater and forces
it through a turbine. The turbine generates
electricity, which can be brought to land by
underwater cable
