WHAT IS GRAMMAR?

• Grammar is the system of a language.

• Rules of a language governing the sounds, words, sentences,


and other elements, as well as their combination and
interpretation.

Is the word order right or wrong? Correct the ones that are wrong.

Everybody enjoyed the party very much.

Tom walks every morning to work.

Jim doesn’t like very much football.

I drink three or four cups of coffee every morning.

I ate quickly my dinner and went out.


TYPES OF ADVERBS
ADVERBS OF MANNER

Adverbs of manner tell us how an action is done or happens.

After the main verb:

She sings well.

She sings loudly.

She sings beautifully.
ADVERBS OF PLACE

Adverbs of place show us the location of the action or state.

 
After the main verb

He ran home.

He ran outside to his car.

He ran everywhere with his mom.


ADVERBS OF FREQUENCY

Adverbs of frequency show us the rate of the action or state. 

Before the main verb

I always brush my teeth after eating food.

Nick usually washes the dishes.

We often meet to chat.
ADVERBS OF TIME

Adverbs of time show us the time of the action or state. 

Examples:
I will study now.

Now I will study. (The time is more


important.
ADVERB CLAUSE OF PURPOSE /
REASON 

An adverb clause of purpose (or reason) is a clause that tells us


the reason the action is happening.

I exercise because I enjoy it.

My sister says that you are kind.

He works two jobs since he is in debt.

ACTIVITY 1

Write 1 sentence about yourself.

Find a partner and let your partner check if your sentence is correct.
ASSIGNMENT

Write 10 sentences that contains adverbs. Five (5) sentences are in


CORRECT word order, and Five (5) sentences are in WRONG word
order.

Write your answer in a 1 whole sheet of paper.
