 What is Disaster?
Disaster could be termed as a loss both in man and material which is sudden in
nature and its impact on the affected community is such that it jeopardizes the
normal functioning of daily life.

The occurred losses are such that additional resources and efforts are required to
normalize life. As per the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent
Societies, Disaster is defined as “ A disaster is a sudden, calamitous event that
seriously disrupts the functioning of a community or society
and causes human, material, and economic or
environmental losses that exceed the community’s
or society’s ability to cope using its own
resources. Though often caused by nature,
disasters can have human origins”
Natural disasters result in heavy losses in terms of economy, environment, health.

Disaster affects our life in many ways. The effect it makes can also be termed as

 METHODOLOG
Y
In this study, analysis of relevant national disaster data and
a literature review were conducted to investigate global
trends of floods and droughts,
and their impacts on human health.
Data on the number of occurrences, total deaths, affected
people, and economic damage of natural disasters were
extracted from EM-DAT's (2019) Emergency Events
Database (https://www.emdat.be/emdat_db/), and analyzed
to illustrate the temporal and spatial distribution of WRDs'
occurrence and social impacts (i.e., total deaths, economic
damage)
