Short background on GPP:
◉ Due to the nutritional deficiency
which is a growing concern among
shool -aged children that affects
their learning process, school
gardens have been promoted in the
Philippines as early as 1970’s.

4
◉ In 2010, the DepEd and the DA
promoted the GPP to address
malnutrition by promoting vegetable
production and consumption among
schoolchildren.

5
◉ The program was issued according
to the DepEd Memorandum No, 293
series of 2007 to encourage both
public elementary and secondary
schools to establish gardens to
ensure the continuous supply of
vegetables for school feeding.
