Gulayan sa Paaralan is one of the best way on how we can improve learning.
Why? Simply, utilizing school gardening for supplementary feeding program can be a
tool in aiding the major reasons why a child drops out of school- poverty, hunger,
malnutrition.
Aside from implementing school gardening for the purpose of feeding programs
is inculcating among our learners the values of good health and nutrition, industry,
love of labor and caring for others. Furthermore, this will teach them how to
improve their nutritional status, learning where food comes from and how planting
promotes beautification of their surroundings. It also serves as a good simulating
activity in which they will learn leadership and rendering good service. As a matter
of fact, planting as one of the livelihood skills that learner will acquire in school
can be applied and replicated in their respected households.
As they say, school is a miniature society. Hence it is but the reflection of the
community and at times the type of community relies of what is being showcased in
the school as such, the school gardening is a good example. It introduce to the
community small scale food production which will somehow elevate
their perspective about food security, health awareness and income generating
projects. It will raise the level of the public consciousness on the nutritional
dimensions and economic benefits.
II. Objectives
1. To promote vegetable production in the school campus and at home.
2. To establish and maintain gardens as ready food source of vegetables in
sustaining supplementary feeding.
3. To include among the learners the values of gardening, good health and
malnutrition, love of labor and caring for others.

sustaining supplementary feeding.
 To include among the learners the values of gardening, good health and
malnutrition, love of labor and caring for others.

IV. Highlights

The Grade V pupils participated in Gulayan sa Paaralan in their EPP subject. In

preparation of the school garden plots, they cleaned and prepared the soil by
plowing and mixing it with garden soil and organic fertilizer such as vermi cast, and
animal manure. They also prepared seeds like monggo, mustasa, petsay, talong and
sili in the seedling box. After a few weeks, they grew and were ready for planted. As
the vegetables are ready for harvest, the vegetables were the ones that were used
to supplement the daily feeding of our pupils because of its abundant supply in our
school.

V. Issues and Concerns

 To support the School Based Feeding Program for one hundred twenty
(120) days.
 To enhance the skills of each pupil to learn how to cultivate the soil for
school gardening.
 To give importance that vegetables are good for our body.
VI. Comments and Suggestions
 Sustain the use of organic fertilizers in raising vegetables
 Continues support from the national budget
 Parents involvement in vegetable gardening

VII. Conclusion

The Gulayan sa Paaralan shall be implemented in every school regardless of

ample or limited area. Let us be work to improve and increase vegetable production
in school by teaching the learners the methods of sustainable production of food
which are applicable to their homes and important in honing their skills in
agriculture. Let us utilize school gardening in improving the education of the young
ones through supplementary feeding programs and garden sale to fund necessary
activities. Let our school be the model of cleanliness and greenness in our
