The Department of Education (DepEd), under its core value Makakalikasan,
Background supports the national government’s effort in protecting and conserving the

threee programs that work side-by-side to be implemented in schools: The

2007, Youth for Environment in Schools Organization ( YES-O) through
DepEd Order 72, s. 2003 and the School Inside a Garden (SIGA) launched
through DECS Memo No. 77, s. 1995.
Rationale In 2008, the Gulayan sa Paaralan was launched as a partnership between
the Department of Agriculture (DA) and DepEd through Memorandum
No.293 which specialized in the planting of vegetables in school campuses

generating projects of the School Health Division (SHD) under the Bureau
of Learner Support Services (BLSS).

In DepEd Memorandum 293, s. 2007 Paragraph 4 states “ Gulayan sa

Paarlan Program” shall be implemented in all public elementary and
secondary schools with ample or limited areas in rural or even in urban
setting using organic gardening technologies. Thus this virtual revisit of
Gulayan sa Paaralan Program is deemed necessary for the proper and wide
implementation of the program.
