This magnificent map of the
Philippine archipelago, drawn by
the Jesuit Father Pedro Murillo
Velarde (1696–1753) and published
in Manila in 1734, is the first and
most important scientific map of
the Philippines.

- shows shapes of Earth's surface.
-usually made up of lines of equal
elevation known as " contour
lines".

color gradients, and shaded relief

hikers, skiers, and other seeking
outdoor recreation.

surveyors, engineers, construction
workers, landscape planners,

colors to radicate t o
the reader what
they are mapping.

describes what all
symbols on the map
mean. Maps with

legend can be used
without the need for
additional
interpretation guides.

the t o p of the map.

distance on the map to distance on the ground.
