3 LEVELS OF ANALYSIS
The different levels of analysis are necessary for understanding
individual behavior within organizations because people always act
within the context of their environment. The different levels of analysis
used in the field of organizational behavior are: the individual behavior
(individual level of analysis), inter-individual behavior (group level
of analysis), and the behavior of organization (organizational level of
analysis).

At the individual level of analysis, organizational behavior studies the

individual behavior of people like how they react to organizational plan, policies,
etc. Psychological theories like learning, motivation and leadership are also
considered to the study of the behavior of an individual.
INDIVIDUAL LEVEL OF
ANALYSIS

It also studies the factor like learning, perception, belief and attitude of each
individual. OB studies the impact of psychological factor upon behavior and job
performance at individual level.

GROUP LEVEL OF
ANALYSIS

At the group level of analysis, organizational behavior studies how the

groups interact with each other, how they work, what types of task the groups are
performing, and how does leadership influence the group. OB studies the impact
of social and psychological group behavior factors upon the behavior and
performance of groups at the group level.
GROUP LEVEL OF
ANALYSIS

Organization consists of group, teams that work together in full cooperation

and coordination of each other. OB at group level focuses upon group interaction
among members. It is highly concerned with social psychology theories working
in a group.

At the organizational level of analysis, organizational behavior studies the

behavior of an organization as a whole. OB studies the impact of sociological
factors upon organizational effectiveness at organizational system level.
ORGANIZATIONAL LEVEL OF
ANALYSIS

It tries to analyze the relationship between the organization and environment

and the influence of environment on organizational structure, design, culture and
organizational effectiveness.
