Virtual Reality

Emerging Technology
by De’Asia Smith
• Virtual Reality: the computer-generated simulation of a
three-dimensional image or environment that can be
interacted with in a seemingly real or physical way by a
person using special electronic equipment, such as a
helmet with a screen inside or gloves fitted with
sensors.
• Many researchers have tried using virtual reality in
Virtual Reality science classrooms to better explain ecosystems and
other scientific subjects. A study has been done with
in the Classroom the use of virtual reality in the classroom, and it has
proven that the children had a higher success rate
then the children who didn’t use virtual reality, but
learned the exact same thing.
• With the use of the virtual reality
technology, it helps to reduce the
amount of distractions in an
educational setting.
Pros
1.Helps to reduce distractions in the classroom
2. There has been a rapid advance and reduce of cost in
technology that makes it available for student use in
classrooms
3. Full IVR displays, such as HMDs, can maximize
perceived realism and immersion within virtual spaces
CONS
1. Few studies have
investigated the educational
influence of using IVR with
HMDs in schools and
classrooms, especially in the
field of science for young
students.
2. Can damage the relationships
between students and human
interactions.
3. Not very flexible
