INTRODUCTION
• Ground water is often contaminated by suspended solid particles. Purification of
such turbid water generally requires the use of coagulants.

• A number of inorganic and synthetic polymeric coagulants are available for water
treatment. Inorganic coagulants such as alums are widely used for removing
turbidity from water.

• Synthetic polymers have also found application in water treatment. However,

these coagulants generate non-biodegradable sludge, which cannot be recycled
easily.
• Moreover, traces of polymeric coagulants left in water, may engender serious health
hazards. Therefore, the inorganic and synthetic coagulants cannot provide an
environment friendly and sustainable solution for turbid water treatment.

• Over the past few years natural coagulants have gained interest among researchers
for treatment of turbid water. These coagulants can be extracted either from different
plant or animal sources.

• However, natural coagulants obtained from plant sources such as Moringa Oleifera,
Maize, and Cactus Latifaria etc., are more widely studied by researchers.

• This work focuses on the natural coagulants from four herbs namely Cassia
Auriculata, Sessile Joyweed, Holy Basil and Balloon plant
OBJECTIVE

• To find the suitability of natural coagulating agent.

• To determine the efficiency of various coagulants.

• To find efficient coagulant dosage.

• To find factors influencing coagulation process such as pH, temperature and dosage.

• Optimization and Eco-friendly analysis.

• Combined process of process efficiency.

Sajid Hussain, Awais Pine cone extract as natural • This study has shown the potential of pine cone extract for
Sattar Gouri, Ashfaq coagulant for purification of the treatment of turbid water.
Ahmad (2019) turbid water • Favorable results of coagulation activity have been
observed with moderatecoagulant dose.
• Coagulation efficiency of pine cone coagulant is found to
be less than Moringa Oliefera and Alum by 4 and 10%
respectively.

Dragana V. Kukic, Extracts of fava bean (Vicia • In this study, applicability of extracts from fava bean seeds,
Marina B. Sciban, faba L.) seeds as natural as natural coagulants, was investigated.
Jelena M Prodavic, coagulants • Appling different doses of coagulant in water showed that
Aleksandra N Tepic, the best coagulation activity is achieved by adding dose of
Mirjana A. Vasic 0.125 ml/l.
(2015) • The conducted experiments confirm positive coagulation
properties and have great potential as natural coagulants.

using various unit processes in • From the study it is concluded that laundry rinsing water
lab-scale. polluted with high turbidity and anionic surfactant treated
with Nirmali seeds as coagulant at a retention time of 24 h
gives the best results.

Renuka A Binayke , Application of natural • The present study experiments were conducted in the lab to
M.V.Jadhav (2013) coagulants in water purification. investigate the efficiency of stock solutions obtained from
the herbs of Moringa Oleifera (Drum sticks) , Okra gum ,
and the mucilage isolated from the dry flowers of C.Procera
as flocculent for the treatment of turbid water samples
containing synthetic turbidity caused by clay materials.
• From the observations taken it was also concluded that when
natural coagulants were used as a coagulant aid, the dosage
of alum can be reduced to almost 50%.

Saritha Vara (2012) Screening and evaluation of • The present study was aimed to investigate the effects of
innate coagulants for water alum as coagulant in conjunction with bean, sago and chitin
treatment: a sustainable approach as natural coagulants.
• The results showed hardness removal efficiency observed to
be 93% at pH 7 with 1-mg/l concentration by alum, whereas
chitin was stable at all the pH ranges showing the highest
removal at 1 and 1.5mg/l with pH 7.
• In conclusion, using natural coagulants results in
considerable savings in chemicals and sludge handling cost
may be achieved.

quality of TSW final effluent, with higher reduction of BOD,
COD, TSS and stability in pH value.
