colors, offered tips, coats, and priming

Our
Our Vision:
Vision:
Our initial goal was to personalize the boy’s bathroom to
inspire and spark creativity for those who use it.
Our thought process:

We wanted to learn more about what creates a better

environment in our school. Murals? Color? Customization?
How did the girl’s bathroom affect us? How will the boy’s
bathroom affect those who use it?
Driving Question:
Question:
“How can I help spark creativity and create a personalized space in our school?”

We recognized how the stalls in the girl’s bathroom have impacted us,
and we wanted to explore how it may affect the guys. Positivity and
personalization are sometimes overlooked for highschool boys!
Our conclusion: The boy’s are happy to have their bathroom painted.
We conducted a final research survey once we had our finished product to
see how the students felt towards the painted bathrooms….we have had
100% positive feedback!
First
First steps:
steps:
Emailing different local businesses to supply our paint: We emailed/ contacted Home
Depot, Ace Hardware, Dakine Paints, Sherwin Williams, etc

Surveying those who use the boy’s bathroom: We sent out an initial survey asking for
designs, color recommendations, and how they felt about their bathroom

Coming to a conclusion on designs: Drawing out and coloring what we were going to
paint, inspired by what the boy’s suggested
Middle Steps:
Steps:
Going into stores to buy supplies and pick up paint: Michelle at Dakine
Paints helped us!
Priming the doors and painting our basecoats: We took time after school
hours to prime and paint our first layers
Finalizing designs: We finalized what designs we were painting on top of
our bases
Clean up: Making sure to clean paint on floors, walls, sinks, and
cleaning out brushes
Final steps:
steps:
Thank you letters: Sent to Dakine Paint, Laura Ramos
Final survey: Sent to all grades once painting was finished

Reflection:
Reflection:
- This project tested our time management, scheduling, and social skills. We had to
work around two different work and school schedules. We also were tested in artistry.
(I haven’t painted in a few years, and definitely not on a large scale!) (LM)
(I have never taken an art class before or really taken on a big art project like this, and
I had a lot of fun creating our products!)(AD)

- We have strengthened the skills in communication and self confidence. There were
definitely a few points where we felt lost, like we weren’t going to finish on time, but
we proved ourselves wrong! We went asking our community members for donations,
guidance, and help which challenged both of us because communicating with people
took us out of our comfort zones.
Takeaways
Takeaways for forour our futures:
futures:
We began this project thinking that the easiest part would be
gathering supplies, and that painting would take up most of our time.
We now know that things don’t always go as expected. For the future, I
would have worked fasted on getting our supplies and donations,
leaving more time to paint. This was a miscalculation that we’ve
learned from!
Another takeaway is that it’s simpler to make an impact than we
imagined. The results of our final survey were great, and we’re excited
to see how this impacts students in the future!
