II. Apply the techniques into interpreting
practice:
Here is the link of the video I used to practice listening:

https://www.ted.com/talks/jen_gunter_why_you_don_t_need_8
_glasses_of_water_a_day#t-19207

The topic of the video is about the question:

Why you don’t need 8 glasses of water a day?
*Some listening techniques that I
applied to practice interpreting:
Technique 1: Listen to sentence stresses (0:06)
 It won't make your skin brighter, it won't make you
feel clearheaded, it won't make you feel more
energetic. It might, however, make you have to pee a
lot.
Þ The stresses focus on some main words:
…….won’t …….skin brighter…….clearheaded…..
energetic…….howerver….pee a lot.
Technique 2: Listen to get the gist (0:22)
 There's a lot of misinformation out there. But the truth is that
when you understand how your systems function, you're able to
make better decisions. You're not as prone to fall for hype or
pseudoscience. You'll feel empowered to understand what's
really going on.
Þ From the above sentences, I select the main points:
- Have much misinformation
- Understand systems function
- Make better decisions
… then link them together and summarize the content: drinking a
lot of water will not make your body healthier.
Technique 3: Listen for wanted Information (0:53)
 For the most part, your body will tell you when you need to drink
water, because you've got these wonderful, amazing, undervalued
things, kidneys.
………
So thanks to your kidneys, your body is really good at maintaining
hydration.
Þ There is a lot of details in this passage:
- Which organ is in charge of how much water we consume?
- How does that work?
- By what unit is the classification of substances performed?
- How does the organ communicate with the brain to signal the status
of the body?
Therefore, based on what the knowledge we want to access, we can opt
for the appropriate information.
