Drawing Instruments
• French curve: It is made of wood or plastic. They are
made in various shapes, some set squares have French curve
in its centre.
• French curve is used to draw curves which cannot be drawn
with a compass. First a light free hand curve is drawn through
known points, then exact continuous curves are drawn with aid
of French curve.

• Drafting machine: It is a combination instrument
which can be used as a T – square, set Square,
Scales and the protractors. One end of drafting
machine is clamped to the edge of a drawing
board, the other end has an adjustable Head
having protractor markings on it. Two blades of
transparent celluloid accurately set at right angles
to each other are attached to the head.
• By using a drafting machine one can draw
horizontal, vertical, inclined, parallel lines of desired
length any where on the drawing sheet.

that the lines are faint and can be easily
erased.
• 3H and Upwards – For final work
• H and HB – For lettering and dimensioning
