Description: Before the start of the coronavirus outbreak, cities and states were making
some progress on banning plastic bags by shifting from single-use plastic to paper products
and encouraging shoppers to bring reusable bags. However, due to our current situation the
problem is especially apparent in the restaurant industry and its increased reliance on food
delivery services.
Edible Utensils
Many restaurants utilize plastic waste mainly, disposable utensils prior to the pandemic considering that the most
valued transaction of the consumers are food deliveries and takeout services. Additionally, this also happened since
people who are eating in the restaurants prefer to utilize plastic utensils for them to avoid the quick spread of virus
as a health response to the negative effect of the Covid-19, which entails the reversed progress of utilizing plastic
materials, contrarily to what people is trying to practice before the presence of the pandemic. And with being said,
this product arisen to be a good idea after noticing plastic utensils unwanted and enormous effects in our
environment due to its excessive utilization. According to Newburger, E., & Lucas, A. (2020), the popular chain
Just Salad was producing reusable bowls that saved more than 75,000 pounds of plastic a year. However, when the
pandemic hit the chain, the company immediately halted the program, shuttered restaurants and pivoted delivery
and pickup — both of which meant using only disposable packaging. With that observation, I concluded this
product, which is the edible utensils composed of simple ingrediets (Ingredients: 3.5 cups of flour, 1 cup of water,
and 1 tsp of salt) which aims to minimize the utilization of plastic utensils leading to avoid the negative and severe
effect of it towards our environment instead to offer great assistance to our nature.
