RECAP

• Social Surveys collect mainly quantitative but also


qualitative data from {usual representative} samples of
people, by means of their verbal responses to uniform
sets of systematic, structured questions presented either
by interviewers or in self completion questionnaires.

INTRODUCTION
• One of the common methods of diagnosing and solving of
social problems is that of undertaking surveys. These survey are
of various types and as such these considerably help in solving
each type of problem. This method of social research has been
in vogue to a varying degree since the times past and still
continues in use.
MEANING OF SOCIAL SURVEY

• A Social Survey involves obtaining information in a


standardised from large groups of people.
DEFINITIONS OF SOCIAL SURVEY

• According to E.S Bogardus- "A Social Survey is the collection


of data concerning the living and working conditions, broadly
speaking the people in a given community".
• Dunkel - " Social Survey is systematized collection information
of a people living in a particular geographical and cultural area".
AIMS OF SOCIAL SURVEY

1} Data collection regarding social aspects of community :-


             The aim of Social Survey is to collect scientific subjects in social forms of
community, here a researcher can use many technique methoda and collect the subject, such
subjects are qualitative and big size. 
2}Study of social problems:-
           The aim of social survey is to deep study of social problems,it make an effort to
study many problems such as labour class, disease, juveline delinquency, unemployment, ill
health, immortality etc.
3} Practical and Utilitarian view:-  
     Social Survey is more practical and useful
view, it explains on the basis of theoretical
aspect by practical and useful methods
TYPES OF SOCIAL SURVEY

1] Direct and Indirect Survey


             A researcher directly participate by himself. In such survey, consideration given for
size. In indirect survey importance given for quality. 
2] Model Survey
Selection models in orderly called as model
       

survey. This can be done by low cost and short


time.
4]Official, Semi-official and Private Surveys
  Any survey conducted by the governmental organisations is called an
official survey. But when any quasi-governmental insitutions like boards,
corporations, universities etc. Conducted any survey it is called semi-
official type of survey. In the like manner , surveys conducted by private
individuals, organisations or agencies are designated the private surveys .
5] Initial and Repetitive Surveys
If a survey is conducted for the first time in an
area it is called in initial survey. Any subsequent
surveys on the same social problem covering the
same area are called the repetitive surveys.
SUMMARY
• Survey method is so useful that it is being
extensively used both by governmental and non-
governmental agencies. Social surveys go a long
way in so far as social planning is concerned.
