PRAYER
Mahabagin at Makapangyarihan naming Diyos, sa pagpapatuloy ng aming pag-aaral ngayon,
hinihiling po namin ang Iyong banal na patnubay sa aming mga gawain na maging masigla kami at
maipakita namin ang aming galing sa bawat modyul na aming pag-aaralan.
Bigyan po Ninyo ng kalakasan sa pangangatawan at isipan ang aming mga guro at magulang, na
tulong-tulong sa pagbibigay ng pagmamahal at suportang pang-edukasyon sa amin.
Panginoon, yakapin Niyo po kami ng Inyong mapagpalang mga  bisig na hindi kami magkasakit dala
ng pandemyang ito.
Bigyan Niyo po kami ng mapagpakumbabang puso para maging daluyan po kami ng inyong
pagmamahal sa aming kapwa.
Lahat ng papuri at kaluwalhatiaan ay ibinabalik po namin sa Inyo Ama, sa pamamagitan ng
napakahalagang pangalan ng aming Tagapagligtas na si Hesukristo.

EXPECTATIONS:
After going through this module, you are expected to:

01 identify different types and sizes of linens, pillows, and bedsheets;

02 correctly follow proper procedures in conducting room check, turn down and make
up beds and cots; and

03 replace bed linen in accordance with establishment standards


and procedures.
INTRODUCTION
Housekeeping strictly ensures and maintains a cleanliness base from expected
Standard Operational Procedure (SOP) that must be met. The housekeeper is the one
who
performs the housekeeping.
Bed making is an essential nursing technique in housekeeping. This is to prepare
various types of bed for a guest to ensure their comfort in any condition. The
housekeeper also plays an inevitable role in providing comfort and cleanliness for an
ill patient.
MATTRESS:
The mattress is a rectangular pad or a fabric case
filled with a cushion or innerspring that fits on the bed
frame
used for supporting the reclining body. The most
common sizes of the mattresses are given below.

1. Twin Size 38 x 75 inches


2. Full Size 54 x 75 inches
3. Queen size 60 x 80 inches
4. King size 76 x 80 inches
BED SHEET:
Linens are fabric or textile such as bedsheets/bedding,
tablecloths, and towels.
Bed sheets are also available in different sizes that match the sizes
of a mattress.

1. Twin size: flat (66 x 96), fitted (39 x 75 inches)


2. Full size: flat (81 x 96-100 inches), fitted (54 x 75 inches)
3. Queen size: flat (90 x 102-106 inches), fitted (60 x 80 inches)
4. King size: flat (109 x 102-106), fitted (78 x 80 inches)
5. California King size: flat (102 x 110), fitted (72 x 84)
PILLOWS:
The choice of pillows must be according to the size
of the bed.

1. Standard size pillow: 20 x 26 inches


2. Queen size pillow: 20 x 30 inches
3. King size pillow: 20 x 36 inches
4. Euro size pillow: 26 x 26 inches
BLANKET AND THROW SIZES:

Always consider the correct size


of the covering to ensure that it will not loosen and will
stay in place even if you toss and turn it.
1. Throw Size 50 x 60 inches
2. Twin size 66 x 90 inches
3. Queen size/Full size 90 x 90 inches
4. King size 108 x 90 inches
ROOM CHECK OR INSPECTION

The primary purpose of a Room Check or Inspection is to


foresee any problems that
may cause dissatisfaction and complaints of guests about their
rooms. It is a detailed process in which guest rooms are
systematically checked for cleanliness and maintenance needs.

Preparation for Making up
Bed

Strip soiled bed linen from the guest’s bed.

02 Check the mattress pad/ mattress protector if it is stained, torn, or damaged. If it is


not, arrangeit evenly.

Use your leg to adjust the mattress.

Replace the mattress if stained.

Put a clean mattress pad
06 Spread the pad evenly right-side-up over the center of the bed.

07 Lay it out smoothly.

08 Be sure to use the correct size of the Mattress pads/mattress protector

Make sure you have the correct size of the sheets.

10 Strictly no use of stained or torn sheet. Put it immediately in your soiled linen bag.
Bedsheets and pillow covers must be replaced according to bed size.

PROCEDURE IN
MAKING UP BED

Pull the bed away from the headboard.

02 Spread the first bed sheet and tuck the bottom side of the bed.

Take the loose end of the sheet and pull it straight out, Pull up the flap, so it is flat.

Tuck in the free part of the corner.

Pull the flap out toward you and down over the side of the bed. Tuck the flap in.
06 Move to the corner of the bed on the same side
and repeat the procedure.

07 Spread the second sheet the wrong side up from the edge of the mattress.

Lower than the second sheet, make a 6 inches quilt.

Lay the third bed sheet over the quilt.

Make a fold with the second sheet above the quilt and the third sheet approximately 6-8 inches.
11 Tuck the sheets over the mattress securely.

12 Tuck tightly together with the second sheet, quilt the third sheet on the foot side of
the bed.

13 Maître the corners. Mitre is a technique that creates a sharp, smooth corner on the bed, where normally
wrinkles should be left by non-fitted sheets.

Replace the pillowcase and tuck on the loose ends.

Do it in all the pillows.
16 Place the pillows on the bed facing each other opening side toward the center of the
bed.

Position the bedspread evenly and equally hanging over both sides.

18 If damaged or stained on the bedspread is noticed, report it immediately to the


supervisor.

Lay the bedspread over the pillows to the head of the bed.

Tuck the remaining loose part of the bedspread under the pillow.
21 Flatten the surface of the bed smoothly.

22 Check both sides of the bedspread for its evenness.

Using your leg, move back the mattress in its exact position.

24 All the four corners of the bed are mitered correctly. Bed linen is stained free and
properly pressed. The bed must be firm.

The distance of the pillow from headboard to the fold of the bed is approximately 20”.
TURNDOWN SERVICE

Turndown service is a process in which the guest


room is being prepared by a housekeeper to look warm
and inviting for sleeping.
