THE INDOLENCE OF THE FILIPINOS •Economic decline was caused by the following: • Bad example brought by the Spaniards. • Catholic teachings were being taught the wrong way around. • Gambling was encouraged by the Spaniards. • Spanish education does not prioritize economic activities. • The Philippines, by nature, is abundant in resources. •The idea of an association to invest Filipino self-
identity came upon Rizal before the end of 1888. This was due to the incoming International Exposition of 1889 in Paris, France that many people will observe the beauty of Philippine culture. PROJECT FOR FILIPINO COLLEGE IN HONG KONG
• Rizal intended to establish a modern
college within Hong Kong. • Mariano Cunanan promised to help raise Forty-thousand Pesos (Php40,000) as the initial capital for the project institution. • Subjects to be taught in the planned university were Ethics, Religion, Natural Law, Civil Law, Deportment, Hygiene, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Natural History, and Geography. • The college did not come to fruition.
