Ratio is another way of describing the structure of a population. However, rather than
describing the size of a sub-group relative to the total population, ratios describe the size
of a sub-group relative to another sub-group. The numerator is not included in the
denominator. Ratio is a single number that expresses the relative size of two
other numbers. The result of dividing a number X by another number Y is the
ratio of X to Y
ratio of X to Y = X / Y

Republic of the Philippines
By 2024, all people in Asia and the Pacific will benefit from universal and
responsive civil registration and vital statistics systems that facilitate
the realization of their rights and support good governance, health and
development;
The realization of this shared vision depends on the following goals:
(a) Goal 1: Universal civil registration of births, deaths and other vital
events;
(b) Goal 2: All individuals are provided with legal documentation of civil
registration of births, death and other vital events, as necessary, in
order to claim identity, civil status and ensuing rights;
(c) Goal 3: Accurate, complete and timely vital statistics (including on
causes of death) based on registration records, are produced and
disseminated

using CRVS
Indicators - BIRTH
Republic of the Philippines
Birth Rate (also called the crude birth rate) indicates the number of live births per
1000 midyear population in a given year.
Number of births
--------------------------------------- x 1,000
Total mid-year population
General Fertility Rate (also called the fertility rate) is the number of live births per
1,000 women ages 15-49 in a given year. The general fertility rate is a somewhat
more refined measure than the birth rate because it relates births to the age-sex
group at risk of giving birth (usually defined as women ages 15-49).
Number of births
------------------------------------------- x 1,000
Number of women ages 15-49
Indicators - MARRIAGE
Republic of the Philippines
Crude Marriage (Divorce) Rate - is the number of marriages in a year per 1000
population at midyear. Note that the crude marriage rate represents the number
of marriages, not the number of people getting married
Number of marriages
--------------------------------------- x 1,000
Total mid-year population
This same type of formulation can be used to calculate the crude divorce rate.
Mean Age at first marriage is the mean age of men or women at first marriage if
subject throughout their lives to the age-specific marriage rates of first marriages
only in a given year. It is derived from the distribution of first marriages by age
group of husband or wife.
Death Rate (also called the crude death rate) indicates the number of deaths per
1000 midyear population in a given year.
Number of deaths
----------------------------------------- x 1,000
Total mid-year population
Cause-Specific Death Rate is usually expressed in deaths per 100,000, because for
most causes of death, the rates of occurrence are very low.
Deaths from heart disease
--------------------------------------------- x 100,000
Total population
Fetal Death Ratio. The ratio of fetal deaths per 1000 live births
Number of fetal deaths
----------------------------------------- x 1000
Total live births
Indicators - DEATH
Republic of the Philippines
Fetal Death Rate. The ratio of fetal deaths per 1000 births (births plus fetal deaths)
Number of fetal deaths
----------------------------------------- x 1000
Total births
Neonatal Mortality Rate. The ratio of neonatal deaths per 1000 live births
Number of neonatal deaths
----------------------------------------- x 1000
Total live births
Perinatal Mortality Rate is the number of deaths of fetuses weighing at least 500g (or,
when birth weight is unavailable, after 22 completed weeks of gestation or with a
crown-heel length of 25 cm or more), and early neonatal deaths, per 1000 total births.
Because of the different denominators in each component, this is not necessarily
equal to sum of the fetal death rate and the early neonatal mortality rate.
Fetal deaths and early neonatal deaths
------ -------------------------------------------------------- x 1000
Total births
Indicators - DEATH
Republic of the Philippines
Proportion of Dying from a Specific Cause. Deaths from a specific cause can be
expressed as a percentage of all deaths.
Number of deaths from heart disease
------------------------------------------------------ x 100
Total deaths
Infant Mortality Rate is the number of deaths of infants under age 1 per 1,000 live
births in a given year. It is considered a good indicator of the health status of a
population.
Number of deaths of infants
under age 1 in a given year
------------------------------------------- x 1,000
Total live births in that year
