I Can Prevent and Control Diseases from

Parasites
• Parasites cannot live by themselves. They are organisms that live in another
organism called a host. Worms and lice are examples of parasites. You can be an
example of a host if parasites live in your body.

• Diseases caused by parasites are parasitic worm infestation and pediculosis.

These diseases can be contagious. It may affect other people, especially your
family since you live in the same roof.
Parasitic Worm Infestation
• Worms thrive in contaminated hands and surfaces. They can get inside your body without you
realizing it.

• If you do not practice proper hand washing especially after playing outside. using the toilet, and
before handling food, dirt can easily be trapped on your hands and under your fingernails. You
hold your food with your dirty hands, so you may also accidentally swallow the worms as eggs or
larvae.
• The same happens when you walk barefoot. When infecter feces of animals or humans are not
disposed in a sanitary way.
 The good news, parasitic worm infestation can be treated. Visit your doctor for proper
deworming.

• There are instances when your family also needs to be treated to make sure the infestation does
not continue.
Pediculosis
 Another example of diseases from parasites is pediculosis or lice infestation. This is also common
among kids your age. Lice are parasitic insects. They are small like sesame gal seeds. They suck
your blood on your scalp that causes it to get irritated. That is why you feel itchy. They soon lay
eggs and stick them on the base of your hair.

 Nits and lice are usually found on the scalp behind the ears and near the neckline at the back of
the head.
How does one get infected?
 Lice do not jump or fly. They crawl from place to place and person to person. An example is when
you have lice infestation and your hair comes in close contact with other people's hair. You may
also spread the lice if you share clothes, towels, blankets, pillows, bed sheets. combs, brushes,
hats, stuffed toys, and other personal belongings.

 If your scalp is itching too much, tell your parents or guardian about it so that they can check
your head. Lice can be removed by using a very fine-toothed comb. There are shampoos that can
also remove lice, but some have strong chemicals that might not be good for your age. To be on
the safe side, visit your school nurse or family doctor as he or she can prescribe you with the
proper treatment to get rid of the lice.

 It is important to treat lice infestation at home so that others will not be infected. If this
happens, they may also suggest that the whole family should be treated.

Prevention and Control of Diseases from Parasites

 Parasitic worm infestations and pediculosis are contagious and they can be very uncomfortable.
However, health care professionals have a solution to kill the worms and lice. The family and the
school should work together.

To prevent and control these, make it a habit to:

1. Take a bath regularly.

2. Thoroughly wash your hands with soap and water when you hold food, after playing outside, and
after using the toilet. Keep your fingernails short and clean.
3. It is also important to wash your feet and wear slippers or shoes.
4. Clean your surroundings.

5. Avoid sharing personal things such as combs or hair brushes.

I CAN CREATE A PUPPET
What is the Moral of the story?
What is a Puppet?
• It is a movable model of a person or animal that is used in entertainment and is typically
moved either by strings controlled from above or by a hand inside it.

What are the 4 types of puppets?

• Finger puppets
• Hand Puppets
• Stick Puppets
• Shadow Puppets
Finger Puppet
• A finger puppet is a type of puppet that is controlled by one or more fingers that occupy the
interior of the puppet. Finger puppets are generally very simple, consisting of a sheath that the
person wearing the puppet inserts either one or two fingers into.
Hand Puppets
• A hand puppet is a type of puppet that is controlled by the hand or hands that occupies the interior
of the puppet. A glove puppet is a variation of hand puppets.
Stick Puppets
• Stick Puppet can be made using yarn, cloths, and paper mache.

• A great way to get started with puppet making, stick puppets are formed from an image which
is cut out and stuck to a stick.

Shadow Puppets
• Shadow Puppets can use both stick and strings.

• Shadow play, also known as shadow puppetry, is an ancient form of storytelling and entertainment
which uses flat articulated cut-out figures which are held between a source of light and a translucent
screen or scrim. The cut-out shapes of the puppets sometimes include translucent color or other
types of detailing.
• Creating Puppets will allow you to draw, paint, print or work on paper mache and box
sculpture. Use the leftover pieces of pencils, crayons, paints and other materials in your art
box. You can make two dimensional or three- dimensional puppets. Show the shapes, color,
and texture. Emphasis and contrast will further enhance your work.
