CE-324 Soil Mechanics II

Part 1: Introduction
Semester I 2019/2020

Dr. Badee Alshameri, PhD

RFV, Assistant Professor, Department of Geotechnical Engineering, NUST Institute of
Civil Engineering (NICE), School of Civil & Environmental Engineering (SCEE),
National University of Sciences and Technology (NUST)
Introduction

• Course Description
The purpose of this course is to provide the students with an in-depth
knowledge and understanding of the determining bearing capacity of soil,
settlement and rate of settlement, and lateral earth pressure

• Course Objectives
To apply the engineering properties of soil to foundation engineering and
retaining structures
Introduction

Course Learning Outcomes CLOs

Students will be able to
1. Analyse earth retaining structures under various earth pressure conditions
using various earth pressure theories.
2. Analyse given soil conditions and recommend suitable type of
foundations.
3. Conduct subsoil investigation to ascertain subsurface conditions.
