Electrical Safety in

Multi Stored Building

Introduction
• In these rules, unless there is anything repugnant in the subject or context
“Multi-storeyed Building” means and included all buildings with more
than three storeyes or whose height is 15 metres or more.(section 191 and
sub-section (1) of section 303)
Electrical safety
• The cables shall be taken in the electrical duct and no other service
pipes shall run through these ducts. Fire barriers shall be provided at
each floor crossing the duct.
• Panel should be fire proofed door.
• In a commercial multistoried building have to insulate with least two
rising main and the each floor shall be the changeover is connection
to either of the two mains.
• Two earthing should be insulated.
RULE 50A
• provisions for supply and usage of electricity in multistoreyed buildings.
• The occupier should ensure that the electrical installation are accordance
by a relevant codes of practices.
• No other service pipes shall be taken along the ducts pro­vided for laying
power cables. All ducts provided for power cables and other services shall
be provided with fire-barrier at each floor crossing.
Rules 51
• The following provisions shall be observed where energy at medium, high
or extra-high voltage is supplied, con­verted, transformed or used.
• All conductors shall be completely enclosed in mechanically strong metal
casting or metallic covering which is electrically and mechanically
continuous and adequately protected against mechanical damage unless
the said conductors are accessible only to an authorised person or are
installed and protected to the satisfaction of the Inspector so as to prevent
danger:
Rule 52
• If the energy consumer did’t have satisfactory with power supply and get
any danger with that. They can make a complaint to inspector and
inpector do the work properly and inspect them.
• Any test for which application has been made under the provision of sub-
rule (1) shall be carried out within seven days after the receipt of such
application.
Rule 54
• Declared voltage of supply to consumer.
• The variation shall not vary
1. Low and medium voltage by more than 6%
2. High voltage more than 6% on higher side, 9% on lower side
3. EHV, 10% on higher side and 12.5% on lower side .
