Media is a term that refers to all print, digital, and electronic means
of communication.
The term media, which is the plural of medium, refers to the communication channels
through which we disseminate news, music, movies, education, promotional messages and
other data. It includes physical and online newspapers and magazines, television, radio,
billboards, telephone, the Internet, fax and billboards.
Technology and the media are interwoven, and
neither can be separated.

Technology creates media.

Print Media
Print Newspaper

Publication containing news and information and


advertising , usually printed on low cost paper
called newsprint.
Books

A collection of sheets of paper, parchment or other


material with a piece of text written on them, bound
together along one edge within covers.
Magazines

A periodical publication containing a variety of


articles, generally financed by advertising and/or
purchased by readers
Comics

Medium of expression in which images, often


incorporating text, convey information such as
narratives.
Brochures

Advertising pieces mainly used to introduce a


company or organization and inform about
products and/or services to a target audience.
Broadcast Media
Television

A Telecommunication medium for transmitting and


receiving moving images that can be monochrome
or colored, with or without accompanying sound.
Radio

Wireless transmission of signals through free space


by electromagnetic radiation of a frequency
significantly below that of visible light, in the radio
frequency range.
Mobile Phone

A device that can make and receive telephone calls


over a radio link while moving around a wide
geographic area.
Internet

Online Social Network


Online service, platform, or site that focuses on facilitating the building of
social networks or social relations among people who, for example, share
interests, activities, backgrounds, or real life connections.
Online Video Chat
Video chat is an online face-to-face, visual communication performed with other
Internet users by using a webcam and dedicated software. The term stemmed from
programs that evolved from text-based chats to incorporating two-way video
interaction. Video chat is also known as video conferencing and video calling.
Online game

Played over some form of computer network, using


a personal computer or video game console. This
network is usually the internet or equivalent
technology.
Blog

Is a discussion of informational site published on


the world wide web and consisting of a discrete
entries (posts) typically displayed in reverse
chronological order.

TeleBibo: Media & Television Literacy Seminar-Workshop for Children

Vision:
A nation of media and information literate Filipino Children who can contribute to
the production of quality Children’s Television Program.

Mission:
To promote TeleBibo, as a form of media, television, and information literacy
seminar-workshop to all Filipino Children across diverse ethnolinguistic group,
religion, gender, and socio-economic background.

Overall Learning Outcome:


This media and information literacy project generally seeks to yield a nation of
media and information literate Filipino Children by equipping them the skills to
critically evaluate, analyze, and create new concepts of a Child-Friendly Television
(CFTV) program that is intended for the Children’s’ holistic development.
Specific Objectives:
TeleBibo aims to yield the Filipino Nation with Media and Information
Literate Children and that is only possible by gearing them the necessary
skills that will help them to:

- recognize the value and use of media and the dynamics of the Philippine
Television;
- know and understand the different media literacy concepts;
- critically evaluate and analyze different media products/materials; and
- create new concepts of a CFTV program that is appropriate and
intended for their holistic development.

Target Audience: Grade 4-6 and/or Grade 7-10

Timeframe: 3 days (8 hours per day)

teachers to support distance learning modalities which can be
accessed at https://commons.deped.gov.ph.

- The DepEd Commons is an online platform for public school


teachers to support distance learning modalities. It was
designed as a direct solution to give access to online review
materials and Open Educational Resources (OER) during class
suspensions and other similar circumstances.
ETUlay is a free online tutorial platform for learners given by excellent and inspiring
educators, who assume the role of a facilitator and guide the students to another level of
the learning experience.
This online tutorial will also help parents to guide the studies of their children right at the
comfort of their homes.
The ETulay Online tutorials are open for all. These sessions will be held every Monday to
Friday at 9:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. and will be aired on the following social media accounts
and other regional ‘DepEd Tayo’ Facebook accounts:

ETUlay also provides the following additional programs which are aligned
with the academic offerings:
• Special Program - support programs aligned with the academic offerings for
the day
• SPED Program - SPED Hotline - a program with 5 regular sessions aired
weekly based on parents’/guardians’ inquiries or counselling requests
• ALIVE Program - an expanded program which will be providing tutorials
for Grade 1 to 3 for Arabic Language and Islamic Values Education
• ALS Program - ALS Mobile - for networking with other ALS teachers and
centers to feature their best practices
DepEd TV is a Philippine educational television channel of the Department of Education
(DepEd) with the assistance of the Presidential Communications Operations Office
(PCOO). It was launched on August 11, 2020 and began its test broadcast.

Aside from airing on IBC-13 and Solar Learning, DepEd TV also aired its educational
programs on other TV channels:[7]

Cignal – 1 satellite TV channel
G Sat – 1 satellite TV channel

The Radio-Based Instruction (RBI) Program is an alternative
learning delivery mode using radio broadcast to deliver the ALS
programs. As a form of distance learning, it is able to expand access
to education by bringing it to where the learners are. It aims to
provide learning opportunities to listeners and enable them to
acquire equivalency in basic education through the broadcast of
lessons. Now, DepEd is using Radio Based Instruction to continue
teaching learning process during this time of pandemic where
children are not allowed to go to school because COVID 19 .

Provide the communities with internet access, a public


calling station, reading, learning, and resource center to
address their information needs
Institutionalization of Distance Education

Universities and colleges should be encouraged to offer distance


education. Schools should invest in workforce training, self –
learning module development, multimedia planning and
production, monitoring and evaluation.
Legislative Action
Proposed laws to curb sex and violence in mass media

- Senate Bill 1351 seeks to limit exposure of children to violent


programming on TV and cable system.
- Senate Bill 2539 seeks to penalize advertising and media
companies which exploit women and glorify sexual violence in
advertisements.
- Senate Bill 2345 prohibits the public exhibition or display of
obscene and/or distractive motion or still pictures along major
thoroughfares.
House Bill no 7078

An act promoting Critical media and information literacy in the


Philippines and prescribing its enhanced inclusion in the
educational system and curriculum in the Philippines, for such
other purposes, and appropriating funds therefor

This act aims to promote media literacy and for the Filipinos to
understand media and to develop critical thinking in making
decisions and accepting information to avoid fake news and
misleading information.
Republic Act No. 9775

AN ACT DEFINING THE CRIME OF CHILD PORNOGRAPHY, PRESCRIBING PENALTIES THEREFOR AND FOR
OTHER PURPOSES

The State recognizes the vital role of the youth in nation building and shall promote and protect their physical, moral,
spiritual, intellectual, emotional, psychological and social well-being. Towards this end, the State shall:

(a) Guarantee the fundamental rights of every child from all forms of neglect, cruelty and other conditions prejudicial to
his/her development;

(b) Protect every child from all forms of exploitation and abuse including, but not limited to:

(1) the use of a child in pornographic performances and materials; and

(2) the inducement or coercion of a child to engage or be involved in pornography through whatever means; and

(c) Comply with international treaties to which the Philippines is a signatory or a State party concerning the rights of children
which include, but not limited to, the Convention on the Rights of the Child, the Optional Protocol to the Convention on the
Rights of the Child on the Sale of Children, Child Prostitution and Child Pornography, the International Labor Organization
(ILO) Convention No.182 on the Elimination of the Worst Forms of Child Labor and the Convention Against Transnational
Organized Crime.
Republic act 10175 The Philippine Cybercrime Prevention Act
of 2012 focuses on the pre-emption, prevention and prosecution
of cybercrimes such as offenses against the confidentiality,
integrity and availability of computer data and systems,
computer-related offenses, and content-related offenses.

Social Media Regulations Act of 2017 This Act shall be known


as the "Social Media Regulation Act of 2017". It is the policy of
the State to protect and uphold public interest and to regulate
the flow of true and fair information between different sources
in order to enhance information and communications
technology for national benefit.
