HISTORY

From the City Charter of PD dated January 1, 1970, Republic act 5906 with the
1970 date of plebiscite/ratification of Ref, July 10, 1969, mother barangay Culto was
created.

Memorandum Circular was passed by the City Government of Puerto Princesa


1986 - 1987
which ordered for creating and renaming of Culto 1 to Barangay Kalipay.
 Kalipay is a Cuyunon word meaning “happy or cheerful”.

 The new name is exactly describing the characterisics of the early Cuyunon and

Visayan residents of the barangay.

 Most residents found in the barangay were Roman Catholic believers.

Bgy. Kalipay is an urban barangay with a total land
area of 5,568.8 sq. kilometers.
Bounded by Bgy. Maligaya in North, Bgy.
Princesa and Bgy. Magkakaibigan in East,
Bgy. Liwanag in West and Bgy. Masigla in
South.

 It has a distance of 5 km from provincial


capitol and 1 km from the national highway.
 Describing the topographical features of the
barangay, it is 0-25% hilly area and 51-75%
plain area.
 The total area of the barangay stated above
is 100% residential.

Based on 2018 Barangay Census of
Population
• 120 households with an average number of 5 persons
per household with an average annual income of
150,000.
• At present, the barangay is renting a place that serves as
their barangay hall, no health center and day care center.
• The barangay is not capable of putting a day care center
because of the decreasing number of children and
population because some private land owners gradually
improving their land resulting to demolition of some
affected residents.
