OF
VERTEBRATES
AND INVERTEBRATES
A.ENGAGEMENT
Review:

What are the healthy habits

that promote proper
functioning of the organs
system?
A.ENGAGEMENT
Motivation:
Recall the concept of skeleton and its importance to the students.
Demonstrate the location of the backbone by asking the students
to touch the backbone of their friend and ask the following
questions:

-What do you think that what is

the role of our backbone?
-Do you know animals also have
backbone?
A.ENGAGEMENT
Pre Laboratory Activities:
a. Preparation of Materials
b. Settings of Standards to be followed
Ask: What are the standards to be
followed while performing the
experiments?
c. Discussion of Precautionary Measures
B. EXPLORATION
Activity Proper:
1. Divide the class into small groups
2. Provide instructions in doing the activity
(allotted time for the activity, the data
table to be accomplished, group presenter/
member’s role/responsibility
precautionary measures to take)
3. Supervise the class while they are doing the
activity.
4. Observe closely how pupils perform the
experiment. ( Pls. see activity sheets)
C. EXPLANATION
Post Laboratory Activities:
1. Reporting results. The pupils will report their
output on the performed activities
(5 mins. for each group)
2. Compare the results of the data gathered of each
group.
3. Discussion, Analysis and Data Interpretation
 What do you mean by vertebrates?
 What are the characteristics of vertebrates? How
would you describe them?
 Can you give me an example of vertebrates?
C. EXPLANATION
Generalization:

What are the characteristics of

vertebrates? How would you describe
them?
SCIENCE CONCEPTS
Vertebrates are animals with backbones.
Vertebrates can be classified into smaller
groups. Each of which has certain
characteristics. Vertebrates include mammals,
reptiles, amphibians, birds, and fishes.
 Vertebrates have economic importance. They
are sources of food, medicine, and are used in
scientific investigations and contribute to the
harmony of organisms in the environment.
D. ELABORATION
Application:
Have students create an imaginary
creature. Instruct them to draw a picture
of the creature and create a fact sheet
for their creation. Remind students to
give enough information such as their
characteristics and include facts about
vertebrates.
D. ELABORATION
Values Integration:
The animal is left in a house or yard that
appears empty. Reports of companion animals
abandoned and left to die inside vacant
buildings or apartment units are alarmingly
common, and it’s a crime in all 50 states to
abandon an animal. You notice a neighbor has
moved or has stopped visiting a residence
where you know animals live and you heard
some dogs that are howling or barking for
several hours. What will you do?
E. EVALUATION
Write the characteristics of the following animals.
E. EVALUATION
F. ASSIGNMENT

Create a short story about your

imaginary creatures. Ask them
to include facts about
vertebrates in the story.
