Working Principles of PASV

Power-actuated relief valves for boiler or superheater headers
Power-actuated relief valve operates as a system. The ball valve is closed in normal operating
condition. As the pressure switch senses the steam pressure, it will close an electrical switch when
the pressure exceeds the predetermined point. This will energize the solenoid valve, which
pressurizes the “to open” cylinder port of the pneumatic actuator where the ball valve will be
opened.

When the pressure switch senses that the steam pressure has returned to normal, the electrical
switch within the pressure switch opens, de-energizing the solenoid valve and closes the ball valve.
