PRESENT PROGRESSIVE

Form: Form:
Subject + to be (am/ is/ are) Ving To be (Am/ Is/ Are) + subject + Ving?

Ex. She is working in the school. Ex. Is she working in the school?
Ex. He is driving the car. Ex. Is he driving car?
Ex. Chivy is running in the garden. Ex. Is Chivy running in the garden?
Ex. They play football in the school. Ex. Are they playing football in the

Ex. She isn’t working in the school.

Spelling of -ing
(1) Verbs that end in a consonant (a) hope hoping -Ing form: If the word ends in –e,
and –E date dating drop the –e and add

V. Usages of Present Progressive 4.3 We use present progressive
4.1 We use present progressive for an action
happening now:
with “always”
Ex. It is raining. Ex. He is always losing his keys.
Ex. Why are you sitting at my desk?
Ex. What is the baby doing? – He is tearing up a
£5 note.  

4.2 We use for a definite arrangement in the


near future (the most usual way of expressing
one’s immediate places)
Ex. I am meeting Peter tonight. He is taking me
to the theatre.
Ex. Are you doing anything tomorrow
