Supportive Collegial
model model
Autocratic model
The root level of this model is power with a managerial orientation of
authority.
For example- Senior has an authority and ability to control their
subordinate but on the other side subordinates performance will be
much lower than expected performance.
Features of autocratic model
• Depend on power.
• Managerial orientation is authority.
• Employee orientation is obedience.
• Employee psychological result depends on boss.
• Employee needs met is subsistence.
• Performance result is minimum.

Custodial model
The custodial model is based around the concept of providing
economic security for employees – through wages and other benefits –
that will create employee loyalty and Motivation.
The custodial model mainly focuses on the financial reward aspects of
being employed by the organization. The underpinning concept of this
model is that employees become quite dependent upon the package of
wages and other benefits provided by the organization.
As a result they look to improve their performance for the firm in order
to maintain their position and be promoted over time.
Features of custodial model
• Depends on economic resources
• Management orientation is money
• Employee orientation is security and benefit
• Discourage teamwork
• Dependent on their employers

Supportive model
The root level of this model is leadership with a managerial
orientation of support. The employees in this model are oriented
towards their job performance and participation.
Collegial model
The root level of this model is partnership with a managerial
orientation of teamwork not group work.
Features of collegial model
• Depend on partnership.
• Managerial orientation is teamwork.
• Employee orientation is responsible behavior.
• Employee needs met is self actualization.

The system model
In the system model, the organization look at the overall structure and team
environment, and assumes that individuals have different goals, talents, and
abilities.

• One of the most emerging model.


• The expectations of the managers are much more than getting the work done by
the employees.
• Employees want good remuneration, job security, but also want to work in a
positive work environment.
• The managers have to show their emotional side, be more compassionate and
caring towards their team, and they must be sensitive towards the needs of the
diverse workforce.
• They try to develop a positive work culture where the employees feel as if they
are working for their family.

This ultimately results is the longtime commitment and loyalty of the employees
and the success of the company.

X and Y theory

Theory X assumes that employees are naturally unmotivated and dislike working
and this encourages and authoritarian Style of management. According to this view,
management must actively intervene to get things done.

Theory Y shows a participation style of management that is decentralized. It


assumes that employees are happy to work, self-motivated, creative and enjoy
working with grater responsibility.
