What is Gerund?
Gerund is a verb that is acting as a noun. It can also be defined as ing-form
used as a noun.

Types of Gerund
• Gerund as Subject
• Gerund as Object
• Gerund as Modifier of the Noun
Gerund as Subject

When gerund is performing the action in the


sentence, it is functioning as the subject.

Example:
Drinking coffee is my favorite.
Gerund as Object

a. Object of certain verb


Prefer, enjoy, stop, keep, like, dislike, etc.
Example: I cannot stop thinking about it.

b. Object of preposition
Before, after, at, for, of, etc.
Example: You should pray before eating.

c. Object complement (complement of the sentence)


Example: His hobby is swimming.
Gerund as Modifier of the Noun

Gerund + noun (what the noun is for).

Examples:
• Meeting room = room for meeting.
• Parking area = area for parking.
