ACTIVITY 3: “Myself Metaphorically”
DIRECTIONS: There is no single adjective that can best describe the totality of oneself. It needs hundreds,
or even thousands, of modifiers to come up with approximate, if not precise, description of an individual.
People tend to metaphorically compare themselves to a certain thing to give others a glimpse of who they
are. If you will be likened yourself to an item, what would you choose that you think would best resemble
majority of your personality? (Rubric to be used for checking your answer is available in Letter F)

DISCUSSION: Holistic and Partial Perspectives
The way a philosopher thinks can be described as
"abstractive." This means it progresses from everyday
life to a higher level that provides a bird's eye view of
the entire scene. Consider a time when you were able
to climb a tower, or reach the summit of a high
mountain, or look out the windows of an airplane.
The perspective from up there is unquestionably different from
that from the ground. From the ground, you see roads, buildings,
and everything else that make up a normal everyday life, one at a
time. When you are up there, you cannot only see the same roads
and buildings from a different perspective, but you see them all at
the same time. Furthermore, you can also see how they are linked
to one another. (Corpuz, et. al, 2016)
In philosophy, a point of view or perspective is defined as a way
or a method how one sees or perceives the reality or a
phenomenon. There are two kinds of perspectives – partial and
holistic.
Partial Perspective
Partial
point of view pertains to the perception of reality or a particular
phenomenon based on a single factor or causal agency. It is a viewpoint
that is based on one of the elements of a larger whole. (brainly.ph)
Example:
1. When one researcher investigates why some Filipinos believe in faith
healing based on supernatural considerations, the point of view is limited
since it only considers one causative element and ignores other aspects
such as sociological, religious, and historical influences.
2. Upon hearing only the side of Vincent, Teacher Melva scolded Ferdie
after Vincent accused him of vandalizing their classroom.
Holistic Perspective
Holism
is derived from the Greek word "holos," which means
all, entire or totality. Holism is a mode of thinking that
maintains the interdependence of components and other causal
agents. To put it another way, a single structure or component
cannot determine the properties of a phenomenon or system on
its own. It aims to widen our understanding of reality by
considering other possible causative agents or elements, such
as biological, economical, religious, or other factors that may
help us comprehend certain phenomenon. (brainly.ph)
Example:
1.
To understand why some Filipinos still consider faith
healing, the researcher has to consider the history of the
Filipino people, its society, religion, tradition, and even the
economic aspect of it.
2. Upon listening to both sides, Teacher Melva found out
that Vincent helped Ferdie to vandalize their classroom .
