“Tuba Drinkers” by: Vicente Manansala
Description: The artwork’s background is filled with different shades of light colors like green, orange and yellow. The light colors made the artwork’s atmosphere happy. At first glance in the artwork, the masterpiece appeared as an abstract to me because of the irregular shapes used in the people. Despite this, the artist used his creativity by using different shades of light colors from the focal point to express his whole idea. Artist: Vicente Manansala, was a Filipino cubist painter and illustrator. He was a member of the prominent Cruz, Manansala, Lopez family clan. Manansala developed transparent cubism, wherein the "delicate tones, shapes, and patterns of figure and environment are masterfully superimposed". Color- Dark and Light colors are present in the painting such as black, gray, white, red, orange, brown, blue and a little bit of green. Texture- There are parts in the painting that can be observed with texture. Value- The dullness in the center of the painting implies the character itself as deathless and so the other elements in the painting are colored with different bright colors that implies that they have life, unlike the center character that implies deathless but has no life. Shape- Organic shapes are the most evident in the artwork. Form- The shadows and the perspectives of the elements in the painting made them give a 3-dimensional illusion. 3.
