Education of a Nationalistic

Philippines
Group 4
Introduction
● Gonzalez, A. (1992, 1998), who also discussed the Philippine educational
system and its historical aspects

● Young, C. (2002) discussed the country's educational system's use of the

Filipino language as a medium of instruction

● Musa, S. and Ziatdinov, R. (2012) determined that development of one’s

country depends partly on nationalism through the people of the country

● This paper will discuss the lack of nationalism in the educational system of
the Philippines

● This paper will provide some useful suggestions and recommendations on

how nationalism can improve the educational system of the Philippines.
Mode of Instruction
● The mode of instruction (language being used when teaching) is English
● The language that teachers and students use is a mix of Tagalog and English, all
materials used during non-Filipino classes are in English such as presentations, test
papers, etc. Materials outside the classroom are also in English such as
announcements.
● If nationalism has been fully promoted in the future, the mode of instruction could be
completely Tagalog
● All resources would be in Tagalog, and students and teachers would speak to each
other in that language
● Filipinos’ proficiency in English may decrease but at least their proficiency in their own
language would increase as a whole
● If Filipinos were to mostly use Tagalog as their mode of instruction throughout their
school life, they would carry their proficiency in this language unto their jobs.
Education and Nationalism

● Education is often framed with nationalism (Siber, 2019).

● When nationalism is present, you would want to country to progress, so
on education, improving this would improve the country.
● Education plays a big role in the reduction of poverty, which supports the
nation's interest.
● Access and improvement of education can improve the lifestyle of citizens
financially and economically which would help progress a country when
nationalism is present.
Culture in Education

● 10 years in the future, society will have vigorous support of

the Filipino society and will promote their own culture.
● Enable to appreciate and celebrate their culture.
● Effects of foreign culture within Filipino youth that exist today
will be reduced and the love for traditional culture will
prosper.
In Conclusion…

● Nationalism is one of the key factors in the growth of the country

● It compromises the youth to focus on the development of the
Philippines compared to being held back by foreign influences
● It drives the improvement of one’s country and it will surely affect the
education system
● It greatly influences the youth to sympathize with fellow countrymen
and create a non-toxic environment would desire to bring the
development of the country up
