IDENTIFY THE FOLLOWING TYPICAL CHILEAN FEASTS/TRADITIONS
LA TIRANA - FEAST DAY OF SAN SEBASTIÁN – CUASIMODO CELEBRATIONS
TAPATI - LA VENDIMIA– GLORIAS DEL EJERCITO PARADES

A feast celebrated at ‘Pampa del Tamarugal’, each July
16th that celebrates the Catholic holiday of the La Virgen
del Carmen with a festival that attracts thousands of
visitors. Between the 12th and 18th of July people offer
music, dance and gifts to their Virgin patron saint. It is an
outstanding and unique spectacle in Chile.
Every January 20 and March 20, thousands of pilgrims
journey to Yumbel, in Chile's spectacular Lake District to
participate in, people celebrate the patron saint of archers,
soldiers, enemies of religion and others. The celebrations
are colorful and pious.
On this celebration day, the Santiago metropolitan area re-
enacts the tradition of armed huasos guarding parish
priests in colonial times, who went forth to take the Holy
Sacraments to the elderly and infirm who couldn't get to
church on Easter Sunday, with a Mass and processions.
They are very popular in Chile. Most towns in the wine regions and some
wineries will have one during the fall harvest, typically the end of February
through to the beginning of May.
They are often not planned or published far in advance so if you are
planning a future trip, and want to attend one, you will need to look for them
closer to your travel dates. Each will be different, but you can expect there will
be some grape stomping, the crowning of a wine queen, local musical acts,
artisanal products for sale, local food and drinks on offer, and of course lots of
sample wine to taste.
An Easter Island’s celebration in which the participants
paint their bodies with natural paints, and they go down a
hill on a log from a tree to gain points for their queen
Chileans Army’s big parade celebrate the independence
on the 19 th of September. Chile celebrates the 18th of 1810
with great fanfare. Chile officially proclaimed
independence on February 12, 1818.
