Relation
Any set of ordered pairs (x , y) is called a relation in x and y.
For example : {(1, 2), (1, 4), (3, 4), (3, 4)}.

A relation may be expressed by an equation

such as x=y2
Function
• A Function is a rule that assigns a unique output to each input.

Domain
Co-Domain

• Domain : The set of all points over which a function is defined.

• Range: The set of elements in the Co-Domain that are images of elements in the
Domain, is called the Range,
i.e., the Range is a subset of the Co-Domain
The Vertical Line Test
• The graph defines y as a function of x if no vertical line intersects the
graph in more than one point.
Graphs of different function
The Absolute Value Function

• The absolute value function is defined as follows.
