KEY QUESTIONS:
1.HOW METAMORPHIC ROCKS ARE FORMED?
2.HOW UGNEOUS ROCKS ARE FORMED?
METAMORPHISM
is the process of change in the form and structure of rocks due
to intense heat and pressure.
It comes from the Greek word metamorphoun meaning
transform or change shape.
Metamorphism can involve changes in the physical and
chemical properties of rocks in response to heat, pressure, and
chemically active fluids.
Metamorphic rocks are commonly formed underneath the
earth.
IN METAMORPHISM , Rocks do not
actually melt. They become more
dense, more compact.
Minerals may also be changed or
rearranged due to chemical
reactions and it involves fluids that
enter rocks.
FOLIATED METAMORPHIC
ROCKS
Mineral flakes appear to be
parallel to the rock and look
layer.
When rocks break, a thin rock
fragment will result.
