THE CHALLENGES

FACED BY THE
STUDENTS DURING
THE PANDEMIC
Background of the Study
During this pandemic, many challenges were faced by the students and
they are having a hard time dealing with their modules. They are getting
stressed about the education system, their learning status has weakened
and tend to forget some of the lessons they studied. Sometimes they can
understand the lessons but somehow they need more clear and
understandable discussion to maintain their learning status. Some students
used online classes and some of them didn't have any signal in their places.
Moreover, others couldn’t afford phones, gadgets and internet that they
can use for online classes. In modular learning, students couldn't answer
the modules or questions properly because they didn't understand the
lesson or perhaps it was not explained well and it can be the cause of poor
grades that students could get.
The COVID-19 pandemic left students struggling. They faced financial
problems that put their education in jeopardy, had new living
arrangements that made learning difficult, and often lacked the resources
necessary to even log onto class online. The abrupt shift to online in the
Spring 2020 semester made it clear that existing inequities in higher
education had only gotten worse and that it would affect student groups
differently. The pandemic also exposed how many students lacked another
basic necessity for their education: access to affordable and reliable
broadband.
Prior to the pandemic, low-income students and students of color often
relied on campus resources to complete their education, like libraries,
computer labs, and campus Wi-Fi, but lost these essential tools when
campuses shuttered. Too many students of color and low-income, rural,
and Native students struggled to even log into class because of inequitable
Similarly, many of these same students lacked computers and cameras
to support their education and resorted to using their phones instead.
Institutions engaged in heroic efforts to get laptops and hotspots to these
students, and several policy solutions were floated around, but even so,
staying in school remotely proved difficult for many. The pandemic shone
a bright light on how basic necessities--internet, food, housing, and access
are essential for students across the country to be able to access higher
education. And for students of color and low-income students, this lack
has only exacerbated their challenges in higher education. These unmet
basic needs will have real consequences on students' educational
trajectory, and ultimately, their life.
The researchers would like to conduct this research because the
Corona Virus disease or also known as Covid-19 became a relevant topic
or issue in
conducting research in school or other institutions. This is because of its
massive impact and widespread effect in our society. Due to the spread of
COVID-19, educational institutions were forced to close, resulting in an
unprecedented impact on education. Our study aims to fill the gap on what
are the problems that we, the senior high school students, faced and are
currently facing during this pandemic and new normal of learning. It is
also our goal to create solutions regarding these kinds of problems.

pandemic. The subjects of the study were the grade 7 to grade 12 students
of MPJCL and will be conducted at SHS area, during the 2nd semester of
S.Y. 2020-2021. For the research participants, the researchers will select a
total of three students per grade among the students of MPJCL.
This study does not include students from other schools due to we don't
have enough access from them to participate in this study. This research
will be conducted online to the students of MPJCL, among grade 7 to
grade 12 Senior High School will be the respondents with a limited
amount of financial resources and time framework.
