• 1. Planning
• In planning, program strategies are laid out to achieve
the desired outcome. It includes processes such as
FI VE MAJOR FUNCTIONS forecasting, developing
OF MANAGEMENT objectives,programming,scheduling,budgeting,andform
ulatingprocedures.
• 2. Organizing- It aids in developing a group structure
with definite scope of work for every member. It
includes the development of the organizational
structure, delegation of responsibilities and work, and
the relationship among individuals
• 3. Staffing- It is the function of manning the
organization structure and keeping it manned
• 4. Controlling- It implies measurement of
accomplishment against the standards and
correction of deviation if any to ensure achievement
of organizational goals. The purpose of controlling is
to ensure that everything occurs in conformities with
the standards. An efficient system of control helps to
predict deviations before they actually occur.
• 5. Leading-t is that part of managerial function which
actuates the organizational methods to work
efficiently for achievement of organizational
purposes. 
SPORTS MANAGEMENT
Sport management involves any combination of skills related to planning,
organizing, directing, controlling, budgeting, leading, and evaluating within
the context of an organization or department whose primary product or
service is related to sport or physical activity (DeSensi, Kelley, Blanton and
Beitel, 2003).

Sport management refers to the management of various business


functions in sports and recreation organizations. Depending on
their specific job title, sport management professionals might plan,
direct, organize or budget within a sports-related organization.
In sports, an elimination game is a game that
decides which team or player will take part in
the next stage of a particular competition. • Pros: Shortest time needed to complete.
• Cons: Participants don’t like to lose one
match and be out.

on how the bracket plays out. More difficult
to know when the event may conclude.

• Likely even number of matches for each
participant/team.
• In round robin tournaments, everyone gets the
opportunity to compete against all opponents (the
element of luck is eliminated). Not so for Pool Play with
advance to Round Robin.
• One bad match does not end all chances of winning the
event.
• CONS
• Can take the most time of the three.
• Winners are sometimes determined by tiebreakers other
than head to head competition
• Event Managers need to have a thorough understanding
of the NCSG tie breaker for the specific sport.
