L O S T T W O G A M E S O R M AT C H E S . • Easier to understand than pool play (lose two
and your out)
• Participants get to play at least 2 matches
before they are eliminated.
• CONS:
• At least twice the number of matches will be
played than single elimination.
• Depending on number of participants, some
may have to play multiple back to back
matches while others do not.
• Bracket end times can vary widely depending
on how the bracket plays out. More difficult
to know when the event may conclude.
ROUND ROBIN • PROS:

ANOTHER AN EQUAL NUMBER OF TIMES,

• More matches for the participants/teams than single
elimination
• Likely even number of matches for each
participant/team.
• In round robin tournaments, everyone gets the
opportunity to compete against all opponents (the
element of luck is eliminated). Not so for Pool Play with
advance to Round Robin.
• One bad match does not end all chances of winning the
event.
• CONS
• Can take the most time of the three.
• Winners are sometimes determined by tiebreakers other
than head to head competition
• Event Managers need to have a thorough understanding
of the NCSG tie breaker for the specific sport.

intelligence wins
championships.”
