Select a number from the
constants – the number of
teams

Remember: the constant

number must be greater than
the no. of teams
Single Elimination
Known as Knockout System
When do we use this format
in plotting the tournament?
Single Elimination

Formula for identifying the number of games: N-1

Where N stands for number of Teams

Ex: We have 4 teams,
identify the no. of games using N-1

no of games = N-1
=4-1
=3
no. of games is 3
For a better representation, let us plot the
matches.
A
B
C
D
In the plot, A is matched with B where they are
placed as Game 1 or Match 1.
C, on the other hand is matched with D being
Match 2 or Game 2.

Since we are using the Single Elimination format,

A the loser in each match will automatically be

removed.
B The winners for Match 1 and 2 will proceed to the
C Championship Round where they are placed as
Game 3 or Match 3.
D
Note: It is up to you where to start your game 1
but for proper plotting, start on top

plotting the tournament?
Double Elimination

Formula for identifying the number of games: (N-

1)2

Where N stands for number of Teams

Ex: We have 4 teams,
identify the no. of games using (N-1)2
no of games = (N-1)2
=(4-1)2
=8-2
=6
no. of games is 6
In the plot, A is matched with B where
