Why Project Fails?

- Inappropriate management control system

- Unclear project objectives.

- Risk not identified
- Inadequate planning.

-Low productivity.

- Resource are not available.

Project Resources

Labor Machines Material Money

By managing these resources, you can achieve the desired goal:

Time Cost Quality

What is Resource Management?
it is the process of planning, scheduling, and allocating organizational and
project resources in the best possible way. From the beginning stages of your
projects right up to the very end. Its ultimate aim is successful completion of the
project., task, or organizational goals.
While ensuring the utmost efficiency of resources along the way.
Why Resource Management is Important ?

1.Eliminates the danger of overbooking, avoiding unnecessary delays.

2.Allows managers use less resources more efficiently.(Maximize resource
efficiency).
3.Makes project planning more transparent and helps avoid miscommunications.
4.Helps you spot problems early on and sort them out with time to spare.
5.Track project progress.
 Knowing activity duration and resources employed, it is
simple to estimate the activity direct cost

What will happen if the resources are not managing ?

 The project duration will increase,

As a result; the project cost will increase.
Project Resource Management Processes:
Planning • defining how to estimate, acquire, manage,
Resources and utilize physical and team resources.

Estimate • estimating team resources, and the type and

Activity quantities of material, equipment, and supplies
Resources necessary to perform project work.

• improving competencies, team

Develop and member interaction, and
Manage Team providing feedback to enhance
project performance.
In any project, the work breakdown structure should be developed to breakdown the project
from one main large activity to a Smaller task to be end with the last level (Resource)
Then the duration of the project and direct cost can be estimated.
Resource management techniques:

Resource Allocation.

Resource Leveling.

Resource Forecasting.
Definition of Resource allocation and
leveling:
Resource allocation :
is the assignment of the required resources to each activity, in the
Required amount and timing. Resource allocation is also called resource loading.

Resource leveling:
is minimizing the fluctuations in day-to-day resource use throughout the project.
It is usually done by shifting noncritical activities within their available float. It
attempts to make the daily use of a certain resource as uniform as possible
Which of the Resources Have to Be Leveled?

 Labor and Equipment.

 There is no need to level the material.
Example of leveling resources:
A subcontractor needs to install flooring in two areas:
1. Area 1: This area has old vinyl tile that must be removed and replaced with new vinyl tile.
2. Area 2: This area has a concrete slab that needs to be topped with ceramic tile.
This simple project is broken into the activities shown in the following table, along with the
logic, the duration, and the required number of laborers for each.
Do the following:
1. Draw the precedence network and perform the CPM calculations.
2. Allocate the required resources, then level them so that the subcontractor does not use more
than six laborers at any time.
3. Find ways to improve the labor usage profile.
For the sake of simplicity, assume that any laborer can perform any task.
