Current Scenario of EVs in India

• India has nearly 14 lakh EVs on Road, over half of them(57%) are
three wheelers.
• 39% of EVs in India are two wheelers.
• EVs sales in the country has gone up by three times in the last one
year itself.
Forecasting Penetration of Electric Two-Wheelers in India ... Government has decided to
push forward the use of electric vehicles in the country.

(NITI AYOG)
Reasons Why sales of EV car are less in percentage compared to
two wheelers
• Higher cost
• Lack of infrastructure
• Extended charging time
• Not suitable for outstation travel
• Fewer players in the market
• Higher insurance cost
Government’s Subsidy & Targets
• Since EV’s are expensive than conventional vehicles various state
governments are providing subsidies and tax exemptions to achieve
India’s target of zero CO2 emission.

• By 2030, the central government expects the EV sales penetration to

be 30% for private automobiles, 70% for commercial vehicles, and
80% for two- and three-wheelers.
Conclusion
• As the number of Two wheelers are comparatively higher
than passenger cars and initial investment is lower in two
wheelers than cars.
• Passengers Cars will not surpass two wheelers in India till
next decade. (in EV segment)
