INTRODUCTION

MIG welding, also known as metal inert gas welding, is the most
used arc welding technique. It is appropriate for a wide range of
tasks, including robotic welding, big buildings, modest fabrications or
repairs, and recreational activities. The most recent Super Pulse
technology allows MIG to produce a finish close to that attained with
TIG (tungsten inert gas) welding while maintaining the speed for
which MIG is known. MIG may be used on a wide variety of materials
and thicknesses.
The basic idea of MIG welding is that an arc is created between
the workpiece and the reel-fed wire's tip as it leaves the flame. The
use of some flux "cored wires or the use of shielding gas can prevent
the formation of oxidation. For the majority of MIG welding
machines, the operator controls the voltage by adjusting the wire
feed speed, which determines the current.
In many applications, MIG's ease of use is a key advantage, but
speed is also crucial. MIG welds metal much more quickly than TIG,
MMA (manual metal arc) "stick" welding, or gas welding.
Additionally, instructors make sure that students wear the
appropriate safety gear and adhere to all safety precautions because
it's crucial to avoid accidents when performing arc welding. I believe
it is crucial to learn all mechanical engineering welding techniques so
they can be useful to us in the future.

SAFETY REGULATIONS

 Conduct a responsible manner at all times.

 Follow all written and verbal instruction carefully when use a

machine. Ask instructor before proceeding with the machine
activity.

 Cleaning, oiling or adjusting any machine shall not be done

while the machine is in motion.

 Keys or other adjusting tools must never be left so that they may
creep, be thrown, or fall when machine is started.

 Machines and equipment shall operated by authorized personnel

only.

 Use a brush, special tool or hook to remove chips, shaving or

other material from work.

 Student shall keep hands away form cutters and bars while
operating machines.

 Do not work in the workshop without the presence of instructor.

 Do not eat, drink beverages or chewing gum in the workshop.

 Read all machine procedure thoroughly before use it.

 Observe good housekeeping practices. Work areas should be
kept clean and tidy at all times.

 Experiments must be personally monitored at all times. Do

not distract other students and interface with the other
workshop machine.

 Dress properly, No sandals allowed on workshop day.

 Be alert and proceed with caution at all time in the

workshop. Notify the instructor immediately of any unsafe
conditions that observe.

 Know the location and operating procedures of all safety

equipment including, first aid kit(S), and fire extinguisher.
Know where the fire alarm and the exist located.

 Report any accident or injury to instructor or lecturer

immediately, no matter how trivial it seems. Do not panic.
PROCEDURES

 Step 1
Cut the mild steel plate used circular saw which I
have measured.

 Step 2
Attach ground clamp.
 Step 3
Ensure adjusting screw is loose and open cylinder using
handwheel.

 Step 4
Turn adjusting screw and turn on mig machine.
 Step 5
Ensure welding torch has appropriate amount of wire.

 Step 6
Start welding by merging two plates and this call is butt joint.
 Step 7
Next is lap joint. I used the new plate to merging with plate at
the lap joint.

 Step 8
Last step is corner joint. After that clean the workshop and
keep it the items and make sure clean and safe.
RESULT
DISCUSSION

I gained a lot of experience from this work of welding

workpieces. The project materials created provided me with some
fresh perspectives. I can learn how to use the MIG welding safety
features effectively, which is one of the things I can gain. To prevent
accidents, always wear a helmet, safety boot, and glove. by providing
examples from my professors that closely follow the instructions
provided. I also learned how to use the torch with care and time my
hand movements to achieve the best results.

As a result, maintaining proper posture at work is crucial to

avoiding back pain. By working in a pleasant environment, this can be
avoided. In addition to having good body alignment, producing a neat
product also depends on the position of the hand on the instrument.

Finally, one must work hard and become a proficient welder or

instructor in order to achieve the best results.
CONCLUSION

Finally, MIG welding demands a lot of technical knowledge and

proficiency. This is only possible if we practise welding daily. Even
though the session lasted just 4 hours over the course of 4 weeks,
we managed to finish the project assigned by our instructor, which
involved performing lap, butt, and corner joints on a metal
workpiece. As is well known, MIG welding is inferior to TIG welding
in terms of quality. MIG is also quicker and simpler to finish. In
comparison to TIG, which can be pricey, MIG welding is one of the
most cost-effective welding techniques. When a thicker metal needs
a longer, continuous run, MIG is employed. Because of the welding
procedure's approach, the likelihood of a fault is also reduced.

I'm hoping to put the MIG welding abilities I picked up at the

session to use in the near future. I did my best to adapt the
techniques that were supposed to join my workpiece. Last but not
least, I enjoy working on practical tasks in the welding workshop and
I constantly pick up new knowledge.
