Journey into the

Land of
Learning
Story Telling:
“Who’s the Boss”
WHO’S the BOSS?
Once upon a time, in the kingdom of
spectrum of life, there were different levels
of organizations. One morning, the
organizations were having arguments…
commotions…and fight because they do not
understand each other. They under estimate
other’s functions and never listen to point of
view held by others.
Until, the biosphere shout, Quiet!
Everybody stop. From now on I will be the
boss. I am the biggest. So, all of you must
follow my command.
No way! said the ecosystem. I must be the
boss, because I have the components of life.
Both the living and non- living components
and the interactions happen within me.
You, as the boss! That should not
be! I am composed of different
species of organisms living and
functioning together. At the same
time I can manage a habitat.
Therefore, I am the boss, insisted by
the community.
Oh! Come on. Any of you will never
be the boss, because it is me who is
the only qualified to that position. I
am population, the group of
organisms of the same species living
together. I rule the entire group and
its system. So, I should be the boss.
The organism together with its organ
systems, organs and tissues talked, who will
be the leader of this kingdom? Definitely,
we are! We regulate and manage all
activities and processes and everything is
within our control. All of you will never be
active without us working together. In that
case, we will lead the entire kingdom. We
are the boss.
Out of nowhere the cell said, excuse me, can I be
the boss?
Everybody laugh
Are you kidding? You, the little one is the
boss. What kind of leadership you will have,
questioned by the biosphere. Little structure
and simple function, what else can you do?
You are just a small part of this kingdom. Wake
up! You are dreaming!, said the ecosystem and
community.
The cell was very much displeased and
discourage. He really felt bad and restless.
Until the next day, the cell did not function.
What’s happening to us, said the
organism, organ systems, organs and
tissues.
The community said, I’m getting tired
and sick; tell me what’s going on?
Can somebody explain what seems to be
the problem, said the population.
We are all going to die, replied by the
ecosystem.
It’s the cell. He is the reason why we are
experiencing all this. Without him we will
be useless. We need the cell to function.
Let’s talk to him, said the biosphere.
Everybody said, we are really
sorry cell for under estimating
your function. Now, we realized
that each one of us is
important. So, we decided to
follow you as our boss.
Are you sure, I will be the boss? Thank you
anyway for appreciation. But let me say this, No
matter how small or big you are. No matter how
simple and complex your function each of us is
equally important. So we are all the leaders/ boss
in our own different ways. We will function
together and be the best that we can be to
maintain the sequence and pattern in the “LEVELS
OF BIOLOGICAL ORGANIZATION OF LIFE.
Questions:
Who are the characters/ organizations in the

Levels of Biological
Organization of
Life
OBJECTIVES:
1. Distinguish the levels of biological
organization of life
2. Trace the pattern of levels of biological
organization of life
3. Realize the importance of each
level of biological organization of life
Activity 1:
Follow the Pattern
In this activity, you should be able to:
Trace the pattern of Levels of Biological
Organization of Life
The Boat is Sinking
But do you know class, that
living things also have their
levels of organization?

Based on the unlock terms, what is
biological organization?
-Biological organization is simply the way of
classifying a living thing from the smallest to
the largest.

From the smallest level…

1.Cell- smallest functional

unit of life.
Example:
Nerve Cell
Follow-up Question:
Why cell is considered
the basic unit of life?
From the smallest level…

2. Tissue- Groups of similar cells

that perform a particular function.
Example:
Neural
From the smallest level…

3. Organ - Groups of tissues that work

together to perform closely related
functions.
Example: Brain
From the smallest level…
4. Organ System- is a group of
organs that carry out a definite
function to the body.
Example:
Nervous System
From the smallest level…

5. Organism- An individual that is made

up of one cell (unicellular) or all cells,
tissues, organs and organ systems
working together that make an organism
(multicellular).
Example: human, plant, bacteria, carabao
to the largest level.
6. Population-Groups of individuals of
the same species that live in the same
area.
Species =a group of organisms similar
to one another that they can breed and
produce FERTILE OFFSPRING.

Example: Carabao herd
– Bubalus bubalis
to the largest level.
7. Community-Groups of different
populations that live together in a
defined area.
Example: Carabao,
grass,trees, birds
to the largest level.
8. Ecosystem- Groups of all the
organisms that live in a particular place,
together with their nonliving
environment.
to the largest level.

Example: Carabao, grass, trees,

birds, sunlight, soil
to the largest level.
9. Biosphere-Part of the Earth in which
life exists including land, water, air and
atmosphere .
-What will happen if one of
these levels of organization of
life decreases. Let's say the
population of plants becomes
endangered or the river
community is converted to
industrialized areas.
Values Integration:

“All things are equally

important
no matter how small or
big”
Activity 2: “Around Me”
- Take a look at your
environment, and give
examples of organisms,
population, community and
ecosystem.
Activity 3: Let’s Solve

be found.

-5 populations (the pig

10. What is the
ecosystem being
created?
-Farm Ecosystem
Let’s!
Integrate
Knowing the population, community and
ecosystem that we are living in can be beneficial
to us as we will know our resources to have an
income. For example, if you are in living in the
farm ecosystem the primary resources of your
income will be farming or live stocks or if you
are living in the river your primary resources of
your income is the river/ fishing for your daily
living.
Let’s
Generalize!
Instruction: Answer
the riddles
I am small but terrible.
I am the structural and
functional unit of all.
Who am I?
-Cell
I can be a plant, an animal, or
a human. Individually I am
organized
and well-planned. Who am I?

-Organism
I am composed of
hydrosphere and
lithosphere, together is
where life should never be
interfered. Who am I?
-Biosphere
I can be digestive or
circulatory, sometimes
nervous and integumentary,
Always see your doctor so
you do not worry about me.
Who am I?
-Organ System
I am a living, also with non-
living, in a certain area at a
given time,
there are many things
interacting. Who am I?
