NONVERBAL COMMUNICATION
VERBAL COMMUNICATION(ORAL AND
WRITTEN)
• Verbal communication- refers to the utilization of words to express
ourselves in front of other people. Thus it is an inclusion of both oral
and written communication.
• Although most people prefer verbal communication to describe only
spoken communication. The verbal part of communication refers to
the words that we choose, and how they are heard and interpreted.
• Oral communication- which includes what we speak to others in the
form of words.
• Written communication- which includes what we write in the form of
words.
TYPES OF VERBAL COMMUNICATION
• Public Communication- The public communication is defined as the
communication of a person with the public. It involves a massive
assembly of people.
• Interpersonal Communication- Interpersonal communication is the
communication between us and others over the channel. The
communication can be online, face-to-face, video conference on
mobile, etc.
• Such skills are also known as soft skills that determine how well a
person can communicate, behave, and relate to others.
TYPES OF VERBAL COMMUNICATION
• Small-Group Communication- The small group communication is
defined as communication within two or more people. The number of
people participating in such communication is enough to have a good
interaction with each other. Sometimes, such conversations can
become chaotic due to some issues being discussed.
• Intrapersonal Communication- Intrapersonal communication is
communication within us. It is also called as internal communication.
It includes self-thinking, analysis, thoughts, assessments, etc.
associated with the inner state of mind.
NONVERBAL COMMUNICATION
• Non verbal communication is the process of communication which
does not make use of spoken language.
• Instead of written or oral words, it is the conveyance of information
with the use of body language encompassing eye contact, facial
expressions, voice tone, haptics and body gestures.
• It relies on various non-verbal cues like physical movements, tasks,
colors, signs, symbols, signals charts, etc, to express feelings, attitudes
or information.
NONVERBAL COMMUNICATION
• Nonverbal communication. For instance, smiling when you greet
someone communicates warmth, acceptance and openness
• On daily basis, around 65% of communication is non-verbal in nature
• Non verbal communication can be either intentional (Pointing a
finger, smiling) or unintentional (having ignored someone by mistake)

TYPES OF NON VERBAL
COMMUNICATION
• Gestures- Visible body action. Refers to the use of fingers, hands and
arms for expression
• Posture- The way a person stands or sits. It speaks a lot about his
confidence, maturity, alertness and energy level
• Eye Contact- Eyes are regarded as a mirror of our innermost
personality. The way someone looks at you is the greatest indicator of
his intentions
• Facial Expressions- The use of eyes, eyebrows, forehead and mouth for
expression. The face conveys our feelings immediately
• Kinesics- The study of movements involving our hands, body, and face

• Haptics- Refers to how people and other animals communicate via
touching
• Proxemics- The use of space i.e. how far or near you position yourself
from others
• Chronemics- The way we use time and give or don't give our time to
others can communicate different messages 
• Paralanguage- Paralanguage is a form of non verbal
communication that primarily includes intonation, pitch, texture,
tone and rhythm of voice
