SHANNON-WEAVER MODEL
Claude Shannon and
What is the model about?
Warren Weaver
Known as the mother of all
communication models, the
Shannon-Weaver model (1949)
depicts communication as a linear
or one-way process consisting of
five elements: a source (producer
of message); a transmitter
(encoder of message into signals);
a channel (signals adapted for
transmission); a receiver (decoder
of message from the signal); and
a destination.
SHANNON-WEAVER MODEL
SHANNON-WEAVER MODEL
Give an example of communicative
situation that applies Shannon-Weaver
Model.
B. INTERACTIVE
• Is a two-way communication process
• A response is given after a message is sent. The
receiver intentionally or unintentionally gives
feedback
• Communication signal is determined by
experience.
WILBUR SCHRAMM'S MODEL
TRANSACTIONAL MODEL
Barnlund (1970)
proposed a transactional
model of communication.
The basic premise of the
transactional model of
communication is
dynamic that individuals
are simultaneously
engaging in the sending
and receiving of
messages.
