How Ofcom is run

• Ofcom's main decision-making body is the Board
• They also have a Senior Management Team,
Content Board and other Committees.
• The SMT head up groups in Ofcom and form the
core of their Policy and Management Board
• The content board is a committee of the main
board, and it sets and enforces quality and
standards for tv and radio. It has
members representing each of the countries in the
UK and includes members with extensive
broadcasting experience. It has charged
with understanding, analyzing and championing the
voices and interest of the viewer, listener and
citizen
When were they set
?
• Ofcom was formally established on 29
December 2003 and started
regulating the BBC in 2017. It replaced
five organizations: Oftel, the ITC, the
radio Authority, the
radiocommunications Agency and the
Broadcasting Standards Commission. 
What do they do?
• Ofcom regulates and manages what is broadcasted in the UK, on
things such as Television and Radios.
• They protect viewers and listeners from harmful and offensive material
that would most likely upset a certain group of people.
Phones and the
Internet
• Ofcom regulates Phones and Internet to make
sure people are getting the best out of coverage
with the Internet.
• They do this by collecting information from
other people, business and providers to build a
picture of service quality in the UK Today.
• They also use complaints from people when the
internet and then they deal with the problem.
• They also have a list of providers and how good
they are and how many complaints they get.
3 examples of complaints:
• Love island received 2481 complaints over the summer
• This Morning received outrage for the segment called
’How to lose lockdown pounds’
• On Good Morning Britain, Piers Morgan spoke badly
about Megan Markel’s health
