Bone
• Bones as structures and bone as an organ
• Bone as Structure
• l) to provide the rigid framework for the trunk and extremities to withstand mechanical
loads
• 2) to serve as levers for the locomotor function of skeletal muscles
• 3) to afford protection for vulnerable viscera
• Bone as Organ
• 1) it contains hemopoietic tissue of the myeloid type for the production of erythrocytes,
granular leukocytes, and platelets
• 2) it is the organ of storage or reservoir for calcium, phosphorus, magnesium, and sodium
Embriogenesis
• Initial stages of development, the tubeshaped embryo contains three
primary germ cell layers
• 1. Ectoderm or covering layer,
• 2. Endoderm or lining layer,
• 3. Mesoderm or middle layer
perubahan pola makan
• Keuntungan remodelling tulang: penguatan tulang dan bentuknya disesuaikan
dengan stress yang didapat selama proses remodelling. Tulang baru juga lebih
resisten terhadap fraktur
Bone healing
1. Healing by callus formation (indirect, secondary)
2. Healing by direct union (primary)
Stages of bone healing
1. Healing by callus formation
– Haematoma formation
• Occurs immediately
– Inflammation and cellular proliferation
• 8hrs to 1-2weeks
• Migration of inflammatory cells (macrophages,
neutrophils, platelets)
• Elaboration of cytokines, growth factors, other mediators
• Proliferation and differentiation of mesenchymal stem cells, migration
of fibroblasts and osteoclasts
• neovascularization
– Soft callus formation
• 2-3wks to 4-8wks
• Osteoclasts mop up dead bone
• Collagen matrix formation
• Osteoid deposition and mineralisation
• Formation of woven bone
– Hard callus formation
• Weeks to 2-3mnths
• Lamellar bone formation
• Remaining gaps filled by lamellar bone
– Remodelling
• 2mnths to years
• Guided by stress exposure
• Osteoclasts are responsible
• Wolff’s law
2. Healing by direct union
– Occurs in fractures
where ends are
compressed, with
intervening space
<500microns
– No callus formation
– Gap healing – occurs
if space is 200-
500microns
– Contact healing –
occurs if space is
<200microns
Histology of bone structure
• Adult bone : Lamellar bone Cortical or cancellous bone
• Immature bone : Woven bone
• Cortical bone compact
• Cancellous bone spongy, trabeculae
1. Compac Bone
Tersusun atas sistem havers atau osteon. Pada tulang pipih, struktur tulang kompak disebut korteks.
Osteon dapat dibagi menjadi:
• Lamella (berupa lapisan-lapisan), tersusun atas:
• Garam mineral (Ca dan P). Berperan dalam kekerasan dan kepadatan tulang.
• Serabut kolagen. Berperan dalam kelenturan tulang
• Lakuna (Terletak di antara lamela-lamella)
• Mengandung osteosit.
• Kanalikuli
• Saluran havers
• Mengandung saraf dan pembuluh darah
2. Spongy Bone
• Sedikit atau tidak ada osteon
• Pada tulang panjang terletak di tengah
epifisis dan sekeliling rongga medula pada
diafisis.
• Banyak trabekula (anyaman bercabang
yang tidak teratur).
• Ditutupi oleh tulang kompak
(perlindungan).
• Antar trabekula terdapat rongga yang
berisi sumsum tulang.
Histology of skeletal muscle
One of the 3 type of Sarcolemma
muscle • Muscle cell membrane
- Smooth mucle • Sarcoplasm
- Cardiac muscle • Cytoplasm of muscle cell
- Skeletal muscle
• Sarcoplasmic reticulum
• Smooth endoplasmic
reticulum in the muscle cell
• Sarcosomes
• The mitochondria of
muscle cell
• Muscle fiber
• Muscle cell

Cellular biology
a. Sel osteoprogenitor
(osteolysis/resorption, dipicu hormon paratiroid).
• Terkonsentrasi di: Endosteum
Calcium and phosphate
