Delivery & PDI

Technical Support Services

Drill introduction (Delivery)
ALWAYS check the machine
for any damage, theft or
tampering of parts and all
items in the tool box are
present at time of delivery.

Any damage, defects or

problems should be reported
back to Claydon HQ
immediately ! If not
reported it can impact the
replacement of the missing
parts.

Technical Support Services

A thorough PDI should always be PDI Overview
carried out on each machines arrival
and then again before delivery to the
customer.The following pointers should
be observed.
1. Check paintwork for damage
2.Check tyre pressures & condition
3.Check all electrical systems work
correctly
4.Check all hydraulic systems
operate correctly
5.Check all bolts for tightness
6.Check all hydraulic components
for leaks
7.Check machine operates through all
working sequences correctly
8.Grease all grease points
9.if brakes are fitted drain the air
tanks of water

Technical Support Services

The Fan System (mounted)

ALWAYS make sure the fan is connected to a

ZERO pressure return on the tractor.

Technical Support Services

The Importance of the Case Drain and
Free flow Return
The Free flow return should always
be connected FIRST and
disconnected LAST.

Both free flow return and case drain

should be connected to ZERO
pressure returns on the tractor. If in
any doubt when connecting drill to
tractor ALWAYS confirm with the
tractor manufacturer that the
returns are zero pressure returns.
Failure to do so will result in drill
damage and warranty will be void.

Each new drill is supplied with its Always connect the drill Mount the control screen in plain view of the driver
own control screen, extension cable power cable directly to the but without restricting the view from the tractor
and power cable tractor battery

NOTE – Always disconnect the power cable plug when not in use to avoid battery discharge and electrical damage to the drill electrical systems

Metering unit overview

The metering unit is adjusted to suit both

the size of seed and the rate of application,
each drill has its own chart located on the
side of the drill to guide the user how the
drill metering unit should be setup.

Calibrating overview
Calibrating is one of the most
important processes on the
drill, a good calibration will
ensure the best drilling results,
however failure to take care
when calibrating will result in
poor drilling results as well as
causing problems within the
drilling process itself.

Each machine is supplied with

its own operators manual with
thorough instructions on how to
carry out the calibration
process.

Cal factor explained
Seed/Fert One whole turn of
rate the metering unit
(Kg/Ha)

Whenever you set the seed/fert rate and

calibrate the system the computer
automatically calculates how much
seed/fert is released for every complete turn
of the metering unit.

= 0.250Kg
If the seed/fert rate is changed from a high rate to a low rate then the cal
Cal factor & factor needs to be reset to a default rate of 0.500 before calibrating so that
the system can calculate the difference without creating seeding errors.
max speed
Checking the forward speed is usually a good measure of accurate cal
factor, the range should ideally be15-20kmh.

Setting Tool Bar
The Level Board (also known as Batter Board or Ski Board)
should be set up to drag along the top of the ridges with
minimal down pressure. The pressure can be
5 1
3 either increased or decreased by altering the adjuster at
the rear of the drill. The levelling boards are designed to
4 level the ridges created from the leading tine and not to
perform any kind of pressing operation. The Boards should
2 not be set at too steep an angle and should have the
appearance of skiing along the surface.

1. Remove pin to alter angle of ski boards

Care & maintenance

Technical Support Services

Daily work checks and greasing

Check the drill each day

before starting work, look
for wear & tear, leaks, and
any defects.

Grease the machine using

the greasing chart in the
operator’s manual supplied
with the drill as a guide.

Technical Support Services

Tyre pressures & wheel bearings
Check the drill tyre’s daily for
damage.The tyre pressures are in
the operator’s manual supplied
with each drill.
Incorrect tyre pressures effect
drilling depth and road handling.

Grease the wheel bearings using

lithium complex three grease each
day before starting drilling. Use
the greasing chart in the
operator’s manual as a guide.

Ordering parts
Always quote drill
model, build year and
serial number when
ordering parts. If in
doubt attach a photo
of the part and
location. Ordering the
incorrect parts not
only increases drill
downtime but can
damage customer
confidence.

Technical Support Services

Keep the drill clean
Although not always
practically possible, try to
keep the drill clean and
tidy.

It makes the drill easier

and more pleasant to
work with, makes spotting
and diagnosing problems
easier and promotes care
and pride of using.

A clean drill is a happy

drill 

Out of season storage

Always thoroughly wash down,clean out,

lubricate, grease the drill and open the
metering unit door before storing out of
season.
A carefully stored drill will be ready to
use next season much faster than one
that has been neglected!
Technical Support Services
Out of season storage
Neglect is not covered by
warranty and costs in
downtime of the drill.
