PV RELATION TEST@ CCE TEST

• To determine the Pb.
• As shown in figure, the pressure in P > Pb P = Pb P < Pb
the PV cell is initially raised to a
GAS
value far in excess of the bubble OIL OIL
point pressure. PISTON

• The pressure is subsequently DISPLACEMENT DISPLACEMENT DISPLACEMENT
reduced in stages, then the total FLUID FLUID FLUID

volume is recorded.
• The volume is measured relative to
the volume at bubble point
• When the bubble point is reached, gas is liberated from the oil and overall
compressibility increase significantly.
• Thereafter, small changes in pressure will result in large changes in total
fluid.
Differential Vaporisation Test
at Reservoir Temperature

• A shown in figure, the experiment DIFFERENTIAL VAPOURISATION TEST

starts at bubble point pressure
P = Pb P2 < Pb P3=P2
• The pressure was drop below Pb
and the volume of gas and oil were OIL

• The gas was subjected to the
compositional analysis using gas
chromatograph.
The Difference Between CCE and
Differential Vaporisation Test
• In flash experiment, no gas is removed. The gas remains in
equilibrium with the oil. Hydrocarbon composition in the PVT cell
remains unchanged.
• In differential liberation experiment, gas is physically removed.
There is a continual composition change. The fluid is richer in
heavier components.
• For higher volatility oils, more gas escapes from solution in flash
expansion than in differential liberation, resulting in a smaller oil
volume after flash process.
• Combination of both experiments are required to describe the
overall changes.
• However, differential liberation provides better description than
CCE because it simulates actual oil production.
