CLASSIFICATION OF THE SYSTEM
Refuse disposal system, technique for the collection, treatment, and disposal of the
solid wastes of a community. The development and operation of these systems is
often called solid-waste management.

Type of system

liquid, or gaseous wastes.
REFUSE CONTAINER
• A waste container is a container for temporarily storing waste, and is usually made
out of metal & plastic.
• Common terms are dustbin, rubbish bin, refuse bin, litter bin, garbage can, trash
can, trash barrel, trash bin, skip, dumpster, waste basket, waste paper basket, waste
receptacle, litter receptacle, container bin, wheelie bin, bin, and kitchen bin.
REFUSE CONTAINER
• Quite simple, very difficult for the user to clean them out effectively.
• Some of materials that should go into refuse container include
following:
 Animal waste
 Carbon paper
 Diapers
 Glasses
 Food waste
 Bottle & etc
• Place trash in sealed trash bags (reduce odor & littering)
• For recyclable materials should be place in recyclable container
RECYCLE BIN
A recycling bin (or recycle bin) is a container used to hold recyclables
before they are taken to recycling centers. Recycling bins exist in various
sizes for use in homes, offices, and large public facilities. Separate
containers are often provided for paper, tin or aluminum cans, and glass
or plastic & bottles.
GARBAGE COLLECTOR
• A waste collector is a person employed by a public or private enterprise to collect
and remove refuse and recyclables from residential, commercial, industrial or
other collection site for further processing and disposal. Specialised waste
collection vehicles featuring an array of automated functions are often deployed
to assist waste collectors in reducing collection and transport time and for
protection from exposure.
REFUSE CHUTE
Refuse chute is an inclined channel in which refuse can be passed down from the
opening of each floor to the central refuse room on the ground floor of a building.
Use in high residential buildings because not practicable to require that all rubbish is
carried by occupants to container at ground level.
Provide chute running down which to deliver all rubbish from upper floors to container
at ground level.
Components Hooper
1. Hooper Vertical
2. Vertical shaft shaft
3. container

container
Hopper – at each floor level. (self closing hopper)
Opening hopper not less than 350mm width and
250mm high.
Material used-concrete, galvanised steel, asbestos.

Vertical shaft / chute- carried up to roof level and

vented.
Must vertically through the building
to make maximum use of chutes
Delivery points are often collective landings.
Large diameter pipe – not more than 450mm
(reduce blockage)
Container – at ground level
Must access by special refuse collection vehicle, be larger than a chute.
Always be closed – avoid complaints of smell often arise from dwellings near the
containers.
LANDFILL
• A landfill, also known as a dump, rubbish dump or both, Rubbish Landfill Dump is a
site for the disposal of waste materials by burial and is the oldest form of waste
treatment. Historically, landfills have been the most common methods of organized
waste disposal and remain so in many places around the world.
• Landfills may include internal waste disposal sites (where a producer of waste
carries out their own waste disposal at the place of production) as well as sites
used by many producers. Many landfills are also used for other waste
management purposes, such as the temporary storage, consolidation and transfer,
or processing of waste material (sorting, treatment, or recycling).
INCINERATORS
• Incineration is a waste treatment process that involves the combustion of organic
substances contained in waste materials. Incineration and other high temperature
waste treatment systems are described as "thermal treatment". Incineration of waste
materials converts the waste into ash, flue gas, and heat. The ash is mostly formed
by the inorganic constituents of the waste, and may take the form of solid lumps
or particulates carried by the flue gas. The flue gases must be cleaned of gaseous
and particulate pollutants before they are dispersed into the atmosphere. In some
cases, the heat generated by incineration can be used to generate electric power.
• In several countries, there are still concerns from experts and local communities
about the environmental impact of incinerators
• In some countries, incinerators built just a few decades ago often did not include
a materials separation to remove hazardous, bulky or recyclable materials before
combustion. These facilities tended to risk the health of the plant workers and the
local environment due to inadequate levels of gas cleaning and combustion
process control. Most of these facilities did not generate electricity.
